Being captain of a club, is one of the biggest honours at player level, so who deserves to have the armband and lead Rovers to victory.

Last season, Jason McAteer had that honour, but did he do a good enough job? Or was he outstanding and no doubt the best captain we have had for a long time? He certainly brings passion into the game when he wears the band, and seems he has pride to go with it. I have to admit, at first, he wasn't my choice for captain, and thought maybe he was given it for his reputation. But he hasn't let me down, overall, although some can raise doubts about his captaining ability from time to time.

What about vice captain, Mike Jackson. He definitely commands the back four and gets respects from his team mates, is he a better and safer bet than McAteer? Jackson was the rock of the defence last season, and he has shown he is more than capable of being captain. But, do you think defenders shouldn't be captains, or do you think he is just not the man for the job?

Another contender would be veteran Mark Rankine. The central midfielder brings in a lot of experience and this, without doubt, would help the lads if lead by Rankine. He is a controlling figure in the middle of the park and makes up for his size in his voice and compassion for the game.

Mike Jackson's central partner, Ian Sharps would also be quite high on the list. Sharps has captained Rovers a few times in the past, mostly 2003-4 season. Again, he has a commanding presence, and would do a job as captain.

There have been many great captains as goalkeepers, so could John Achterberg be a great leader. He has the voice and is very consistent with his performances. Achterberg's form would raise anyone's game, especially if he was the captain and everyone would follow the Big Dutchmans lead.
