Rovers Seeded in Carling Cup!

The Football League today announced the details of next seasons Carling Cup and its good news for Rovers fans! Tranmere have been seeded in the first round draw that takes place next Tuesday (June 28th). This means that hopefully they will recieve an easier first round tie.

The first round draw will be live on Sky Sports and Radio One at 7am on next Tuesday (June 28th) and Tranmere will be one of 18 seeded teams from the Northern Area Section. This would mean that the possible opposition for Rovers would be narrowed down to just eighteen possible teams including near neighbours Wrexham and Chester. The other teams they could possibly meet are Barnsley, Blackpool, Chesterfield, Port Vale, Oldham, Scunthorpe, Stockport, Macclesfield, Lincoln, Darlington, Rochdale, Mansfield, Boston, Bury, Grimsby and Carlisle. The ties are likely to be played on Tuesday or Wednesday August 23rd/24th. The second round will then see the introduction of all Premiership teams not involved in European action. Those who are involved in European Competition will enter at the third round stage. The final will take place on Sunday February 26th 2006 and will most likely be at the Millennium Stadium.
