Paul Hall joined Rovers from Rushden and Diamonds on transfer deadline day in 2004 initially until the end of the 2003-04 season but in his short time at the club, impressed enough to earn himself a further one year contract which has just expired.

It is no surprise that having just turned 33 on Friday, Hall’s main aim has been to look after the future of both himself and his family and it appears this is why he has opted for a move to Chesterfield. The Spireites offered a two-year deal whereas Rovers only offered one with Brian Little stating earlier in the week that he would be unsure about Hall’s future after next season.

So Hall has opted to take the two-year contract despite earlier in the close season suggesting he wished to stay at Prenton Park for another crack at promotion with Rovers. I can’t help feeling this may be the first bad decision that the board has made in the close season and with ten players now departed since the start of last season and no new faces, Rovers fans are beginning to get concerned!

I suppose now we need to trust Brian and Lorraine more than ever but with a Striker and a creative midfielder already needed, at least one winger and possibly two must now surely be added to the list of wants as the time until the new season ticks away!

Total Tranmere would like to wish Paul Hall all the best for the future along with former goalkeeper Russell Howarth who today signed a two-year deal with Rovers League One rivals Bradford City. All the best to both of them for the future!
