An appointment to the end of the season doesn’t bode well, but puts us in a better position that the interim management arrangement we had in place last Saturday. Welcome Pete Wild.
Across his career he has managed on a shoestring and been hampered by very tight budgets. That might be the sort of manager we need. He has also managed at clubs that have a non-League feel to them, which makes me wonder if the appointment has one eye on the potential for relegation. He knows this division and the division below.
He is a young manager, at 41. However he brings experience at Oldham, Halifax, Barrow and Fleetwood. His most successful period was at FC Halifax where he achieved a win rate of just short of 47% (Given it’s so long it’s worth explaining that a ‘win’ is when a team beats the opposition). He moved on to Barrow and made them into play off contenders. His last managerial role, at Fleetwood, resulted in his dismissal in January this year, the team struggling with injuries and having sold key players.
Pete now has 10 games to move us forward. He will benefit from having players returning from injury. His disadvantage is likely to be the uncertainty regarding the clubs future. If he does well other clubs may offer him a more permanent role. If he does badly, well, nothing ventured nothing gained.
In an ironic twist his first match in charge will be away at Fleetwood. I am not expecting too much from that, but coming away with a point would be a reasonable result (again, a point is awarded if a team equal the score of the opponents, another rarity for us).
Let’s hope Pete can make a timid Rovers roar, and that we can get behind the team for what is likely to be a roller coaster ride of ten games. We should never have got into our current position, but if Pete leads us to safety he will deserve thanks and appreciation.

Foghat - Wild Cherry......Foghat were a great band, good old 70's boogie rock with lots of fantastic slide guitar...They were all English lads but the band went completely under the radar here in the UK, nobody had heard of them, yet they were pretty big over in The States and would draw big audiences at their live shows...a band i would loved to have seen live.

It's not too late HKR, as they are still going. The only guy remaining who formed Foghat is the drummer, Roger Earl. He was originally in a band in the UK called Savoy Brown and I think 3 of that band including Roger left the band to form Foghat in the States. As you say, they are much bigger and well known over there.
The only reason I know all this is that I worked with his daughter at our local garden centre/farm shop for over 4 years and he came into the shop once and gave me two Foghat CDs, as his daughter had told him I was a fan. I'm ashamed to say that I didn't immediately know who he was when he came in. It was only when he gave me the CDs that I realised who he was. Although I finished there a long time ago, his daughter and I have still kept in touch. Sadly her husband died only recently and Roger came over for the funeral and gave one of the eulogies. Although he must be around 80 now, he still looks in good shape. I'm not sure, but I think they might be doing a couple of gigs in the UK this year, but it might have been last year.
