Apter

Crest

Next Saturday will be most fans last chance to see Rob Apter in a Rovers shirt. I hope that supporters will give a rousing farewell to the player who has literally saved our season. Next season without him will likely be very different.

The Rapter has transformed us. His contribution has been phenomenal transforming a drab team in to one that managed to climb the table away from relegation. His movement and use of the ball leaves opposition defenders befuddled. When he has a bad game the team also has a bad game. Players around him seem to thrive on his energy, Lee O'Connor in particular has had a partnership that has been gloriously productive. As for as Rovers are concerned Rob is built for deserved superlatives.

of course, he has shone in a team desperately short of talent. Blackpool must be some club if they can afford to let him go elsewhere and still be on the edge of the play offs to the Championship. If Blackpool go up there might be the faint possibility that he becomes surplus to requirements, but I doubt that would be the case. He is a player that could easily perform at that level, albeit he will be up against tougher defences.

It seems that we haven't ruled out the possibility of signing him on loan again next season. Personally I think that's just blowing bubbles. Even if Blackpool were to realease him there would be a host of clubs at our level keen to snap him up. Playing for Rovers seems unlikely. It's like when you look at the equaliser draw at half-time. You buy the ticket, but you know in your heart it's not you.

Next Saturday will be special. We will say goodbye to a player that has transformed our season. Let's be loud, let's roar him on and at full time show our appreciation to him for all he has contributed.

That Aaron Nemane goal for Notts County at Walsall yesterday ( Notts 2nd goal ) was excellent, and very reminiscent of a typical Apter goal...Would be nice if we could get a player of similar ilk to come in for Robbie..That won't be easy though..

'Next season without him will likely be very different' ... Why? Unless you have a crystal ball no one yet knows who will be arriving at PP. We may have a better player or two. I do agree though that we should thank him with a resounding send off next Saturday

I think that says it all. If there is a T.E.A.M then they shouldn’t have to depend on one individual for inspiration.

It doesn't negate the T.E.A.M. idea just because we have one player so much better than the others.

I'm not denying he's by far our best player, I'm just saying the team ethic is still important.

Two Scotland U21 appearances for Rob Apter this week. A bit of discussion as to how Tranmere’s style suited him but some L2 games inevitably become long ball type football.

Not quite sure he’s Premier League quality yet. I agree a value of around £400k would be about right.
Contentious I know but should Palios push the boat out and try and buy him ?
Giving Blackpool a 60/70 % sell on fee .

I looked up ‘footballer transfer inflation’ since 1992. Based on that, a player of equivalent scoring prowess as Aldridge would technically cost £6,500,000 (£250,000 1992). However, let’s face it , it is likely to be at least four times that, nowadays with no guarantee they would be as prolific as Aldridge.

A tad depressing. Based on Apter’s contribution last season, I think £1M would be a ‘steal’ but worth the investment if he helped the team to league one.

Unfortunately, I think Tranmere will have to carry on depending on players not wanted by other clubs. I can’t see Nigel bringing in a marquee signing. It will have to be a ‘whole greater than sum of the parts’ TEAM.

And that means having to accept that players some don’t rate will be part of the squad. Living within financial means.

It would help if he gets a run of games. Hard to be consistent when hardly ever played for full games or just used as a late sub. Hopefully, Nigel will get the best out of him. I suspect part of his problem was demotivation.

Unless we get unreal investment Apter is out of our range but the 400k instead be diverted to an adequate similar player with cash to spend wisely

It would be foolhardy for us to splash £400k on any player and we would have to match the best potential wage that player might receive elsewhere.

The skill at our level of resource is unearthing potential talent and creating the right blend of players. Ambition is fine, but splashing cash is just gambling and risking future viability.

Most L2 clubs have recruited more players than us thus far, but hopefully we have deals ready to go so that pre -season does serve to knit the squad, and we do not end up, as last year, playing catch up after the first 10 games

400k on a player would be financial stupidity for a club of our size.

It's like when a small club makes the premier League, blows all it's cash and gets relegated, the bills don't go away. If we have 400k it needs to be invested into the future sustainability of the club.

Things go wrong, remember the last time we spent 400k on a player? Let me remind you, Tommy coyne. Played about 10 games for us before horrible events took hold, we had the money then, we don't now.

Simply a club of our size spending that amount of money, plus wages is too big a risk

johnoshackers
johnoshackers

I wouldn’t want the club to risk it’s financial security ..We wouldn’t want to do a Bury…But the club managed to raise the funds for revamping of the sponsors lounges and the new pitch etc which cost in the region of £2m.
I’m not saying these shouldn’t have been done because obviously they were needed..
My point is if we can raise £2m for stadium development we should be able to raise at least the same amount on player recruitment..
We’ve got a first class playing surface that would grace any Championship club .
Unfortunately without serious player investment we will never get to see Championship football played on it ..

as I mentioned when someone said Crawley Town was worse than Tranmere for attendances but 'they were doing ok'. the owners invested £5.5M in February and look what happened.it's how effectively the money is used. they will start to reap the financial benefit of being in league one.

unfortunately the Palios' don't have access to that sort of money, so yes , it has to be accepted that players like Hawkes and Dennis are part of the team and we should be encouraging them.

hopefully, with Nigel at the helm for a full pre-season we may see an improved contribution from them.and we still don't know who else is coming in.

£400K for Tommy Coyne is equivalent to at least £1,6M today. no chance of that.

See he came on after 83 minutes after they went 2-1 down..
Probably wouldn’t have come on if the game was still 1-1..
There manager plays a very rigid 3-5-2 system which doesn’t set up for Apter ..
He’s an old fashioned out and out winger which suited our 4-4-2..
He’ll soon get fed up bench warming for a poor league one team.

I think Patrick may be able to play the role but 20 minutes a game won’t prove that. Maybe he will start next game. To be honest though , this T E A M mantra needs to work . There shouldn’t be a dependency on one individual. Nigel did admit that things need to improve in chance creativity and conversion, although he insisted the team can score a lot of goals after the friendlies had been completed. Hard to judge - proper competitive games will demonstrate how good the forward / midfield are.

Maybe it was me but it looked like Davies began to play as a forward at times!

Anyway, early days and the makeshift defence did well, as did all the players in playing their defensive part to cut out chances and harass the opposition.

Notts are still a good passing team and I think they will do well because they seem to have cut out the defensive frailties of last season.

It will be interesting to see if Apter remains at Blackpool come the end of Aug. Seen a lot of discussions on about Hamilton being the RWB in the formation they play, their fans confused why Apter not in there. Think we’d all agree that this wouldn’t get the best out of Apter. They also just signed Embleton so I’d imagine he goes into the Attacking Mid position. One thing for sure, after a full season in L2 he needs to be playing week in/week out to continue his development. Otherwise it’s unfulfilled or just stalls his progression.

On Crawley though, wow, promotion team ripped up and lost their best players from it, 7 new debutants yesterday and beating a Top 10 team first game is impressive. They continue to deceive.

Crawley have done it different u der Lindsey since the initial takeover, was listening to Lindsey back in May and how he come in and got rid of bad apples and big earners like Telford & Nadesan.

He’s done it on a fraction of the price the other 3 promoted teams have spent on fees and wages, mostly recruiting from non league for modest fees and having success with loans. He sold Kelly, Lolos and Orsi this summer having only signed them last summer. Kelly was a free from Rochdale, I’m hoping Nigel pulls one out the bag with Davison, Orsi was signed after poor goal returns and people laughing.

Even this summer, none of their signings jump out. They replaced Orsi with Hepburn Murphy, who scored on the weekend. Will look out for them this season, a great example of a manager who knows how he wants to play and what players to make it happen. If they stay up that would be a huge achievement, ripping up squads in consecutive years and getting success with a small budget.

Not a surprise with Critchley, their fans have been unhappy with him for a while it seemed. Seeing Ryan Lowe heavily linked already.

Not in the team or on the bench today for Blackpool's game away to Cambridge. Possibly injured?

he is on the bench, he has just come on in the 86th min...quite a game there, its currently 4-4...can Apter find a late winner?

and Blackpool are bottom....

I know I sound like a dog with a bone but bench warming for team that will likely be relegated this season will not do his development any favours..
He’s a player that needs to be playing week in week out ..Which is what he would have playing for us..
Let’s see what happens come Friday night .

i know he has gone and we can't keep looking back but he has got on the scoresheet this afternoon with Blackpool currently 2-0 up..Blackpool marching up the table..is this just a case of that new manager bounce or will Bruce end up being a great appointment for the Seasiders?

Well considering he used to manage Newcastle, he has experience of managing a club near to vast expanses of sand, I doubt it was an interview requirement, but if he makes the players do a Stan Matthews and regularly jog on the beach it might help.

Then I ate his Liver.......... with some baked beans and a can of coke.

Apter donated £500 to Bamber Bridge who are struggling financially to survive the season.

An old mate of mine from HK that now lives back in the UK in his hometown of Bristol went to the Bristol Rovers v Blackpool game last night..i asked him to give me a report on how Apter played..said that he didn't see a lot of the ball but had some nice touches..he said Bristol Rovers were awful, defended poorly and no shots on target..a bit like us then!!!

Blackpool like us are struggling this season and are my tip for relegation..
When Critchley was manager early season he favoured a 3-5-2 which doesn’t suit Apter and consequently struggled to get into the first team ..
Critchley has gone on the back of there poor start .
Bruce has taken over and despite an initial good run of results there form has dipped again ..
When Apter was with us he became our go to player and Atkins set up the team and formation around him .Which isn’t happening at Blackpool.
Our results when Apter played and didn’t play speak for themselves.
We need him back and should be the first signing we make if the takeover happens..!!!
