There’s nothing to worry about

It would seem that some people have got into a panic for no apparent reason. We haven't even played half our matches this season. We've only played 21 games and people are behaving as if we are in some sort of crises. Now come on folks, this is defeatist talk. Lest we forget, we have won 7 games, that's a third of our matches. So far we have scored 20 goals, stupendous. In fact we've scored two more goals then we've conceded. Still, people seem worried.
Quite clearly we have become a bunch of jelly-spined bottlers. Not the players, no, those of us who go to the matches. OK, so at the same point last season we had 35 points and were 5th, a point off automatic promotion. Our goal difference was only two better and we were a point off the automatic promotion spot. The thing is we were being spoilt, obvious when you look back at it now. We had laboured under the misconception that, at the very least we would make the play-offs. Now we can cast that kind of idealistic thinking off. We are not going to make the play offs. Well, we might, but it's unlikely. We can be secure in the knowledge that we are going nowhere.
This bodes well for the January transfer window. The club can offer players who might be interested in joining us the security of not having to make too much effort. This should enable us to go out and bring in not necessarily the best players, but those who are not so ambitious that they might have to work hard. It also means that we can't be held to ransome by players who joined us with the ridiculous idea that playing for Tranmere might enhance their careers. That's ridiculous, a fantasy that is worth knocking on the head right here, right now. Joining Tranmere in January will give players the opportunity to show that they have what it takes to keep us comfortably in mid-table. If people don't like it they can go elsewhere.
Reading through the post on the message board it's almost as it some supporters think we should be doing better. I think they should have a word with themselves. What are they on? Watching Rovers isn't about being entertained it's about endurance. Some of our fans, and they're not all young, have no idea about the niceties of the modern game. It's almost as if they expect excitement. What next!?
There's even been talk of relegation. Blimey! Can't people add up? Last season Oldham were relegated with 38 points. If we repeat the form of the first half of the season we will get 54 points, that's a whole 16 points clear of last seasons relegation total. And that's before we go out and add to the squad in January with the quality mentioned above. It's part of established history that we always do better in the 2nd half of the season, even in the seasons when we don't.
So let's get behind the team, eh? We should also end all this ridiculous criticisms of our manager. I think it would be great if we gave him a 5 year contract extension. That would show our loyalty to him and mean that any club, like Dundee Utd, who came along in the summer and offered him more pay would have to give us loads of compensation. Plus, and this is crucially important, there are no other managers in the entire universe that would do better than Micky. I haven't met one fan who has come up with a credible alternative, and don't give me 'it's not their job to do that', if they want change they should have an encyclopaedic knowledge of who else is out there. End of story.
This though is the season of goodwill. I'd like to wish everyone a happy Christmas and all the best for the New Year. I'm asking for a new straight jacket for Christmas, typing in this one is really hard.
