Total Tranmere had the honour of some free publicity in Tuesday night's match programme at Newport County, but for some of our regular forum posters, the programme piece wasn't all positive.......
Prior to kick-off at Tuesday night's game away at Newport County, I purchased the £3.50, 100-page match programme and perused it's pages over a couple of pints in the excellent social club at the Ground. Upon doing so I came across the following article which, whilst providing delightful and much-appreciated free publicity for this site, also contained some Newport weighted arguements to County related posts that have cropped up on our Message Board in recent months.
Here is the programme article reproduced in it's entirety (if you are a message board user who has commented on Newport since last summer, you may want to look away now).....

Tranmere have two fans’ forums and this evening we focus on ‘Total Tranmere’ which does not require registration. Here’s a selection of County-related posts. With thanks to the contributors from ‘http://www.thefootballnetwork.net/boards/list/s383.htm’. As can be imagined, they are in an altogether happier mood now than a few months ago!
‘You think our Kop looks embrassing now? Think how it will look with seven Newport County fans in it’.
‘peter’ predicting our travelling support back in the summer. Turns out, he was 80 out when we visited Birkenhead on a Tuesday night in September, our smallest travelling support of the season.
‘Am I right in saying this club do now have financial stability and the injection of cash after being bought by a euro millions winner?????’
It’s not quite as simple as that ‘davis887’.
‘Newport were bought by a long time fan when he won the Euro Lottery (I think he also runs a haulage firm?). Having said that, despite a very large win, they are trying to invest in the long term future of the club’
‘Jack of all Trades’ gives his take on matters Newport
‘0-0 at home against Newport County! Just let that sink in for a minute! If you thought last night was positive, you clearly have blind faith or know very little about football’
We can but presume that ‘Higgy and Yozzer’ was not at Prenton Park on a Friday evening in February 1980. Nigel Vaughan bagged both in a 2-0 victory; we won our next nine games en route to promotion to Division 3. Tranmere finished 15th.
‘Has relegation been the death of any clubs that went into the Conference? Last time I looked, even the clubs that went bust and had to start over again were still going – Halifax, Newport, Chester, Accrington and Aldershot to name five. What makes you think that we won’t survive it?’
‘Doogie’s Ghost’ contemplating the nightmare scenario of relegation earlier this season.
‘Newport is a different scenario as a lot of that time they were defunct. They didn’t go belly up and have a new phoenix club in operation within months like Chester did, not as I recall.’
Clearly ‘Matt34’ does not recall very well! We were back ‘within months’!
‘We created at least five clear cut chances in the first half and should have buried Newport’
‘will_hunting’ gives his rather one-sided take on our 0-0 draw at Prenton Park five months ago
So there you have it! That's what Newport's programme compilers think of County related bits on our forum! Before I finish though just a chance for a little bit of a fight back from us on behalf of you, the site users.... The picture and capton below appeared in the said same match programme! I'm sure none of you will take long to spot the reason why it stood out so much for me...

i see i get a mention, but for him to pull me on it proves he wasnt at the match, we hammered newport and should have won it 5 or 6 nil, it was also the begining of the end for edwards i think our defenders and midfielders lost faith in our forwards that night, the phrase cows ass and banjo spring to mind, this was followed by the defeat to exeter which started the slide and ended with edwards sacking, i stand by my one sided take, apart from forest it was our best home performance under edwards
