Tranmere Rovers v Colchester United Match Discussion
By Deadly Submarine
August 31 2012
If you can't make Tranmere's game at home to Colchester United on Saturday afternoon, why not join in the banter right here with other Rovers fans who are unable to attend......
For those fans who can't make some of the Rovers games this season, particularly the more costly and time consuming southern away games, we at Total Tranmere will be providing a Match Discussion Thread on the Site for every Rovers game.
The thread will allow you to discuss everything from the pre-match build up and starting line-up to the game it as it progresses and the post-match analysis.
Where possible, Total Tranmere staff will post up the starting line-up and substitutes on the thread as soon as it is made known at the game as well as a half-time report on how the game is going for the benefit of those who are unable to make it.
Tranmere of course, host Colchester United on Saturday afternoon in NPower League One so if you're not going to the game why not join in the banter right here while the game is going on?
Maybe if you have a friend or family member texting you from the game you can post their views here for others to see as the game progresses.
You could also use this thread to discuss other interesting scores throughout the league as well as discussing this game afterwards if you have been along to the game.
What you discuss below is up to you but hopefully it can all be focused on one thread to make it easier for everyone to use.
Admin staff will try and add the team and updates on the game on this thread where possible whilst there will also be our usual update service from our Twitter feed @totaltranmere so if you are not already following us it may be worth doing so!
Cassidy is a proper goalscorer, 20+ if we keep providing the service.
Wallace and Robbo together are different league. Keep them fit for 40 games and we're in the play off's if not better.
Zoom fantastic again.
Gibson solid and goodi-eqsue!
Roman CB from wigan, thought was dire, slow, awful on the ball just a big lump and not even that great in the air....I'll say it again Vaulks could do a good job for us at the back if not him Kay/McChrystal could have played today as well.
Fortunately we attacked that much it didn't matter!!!!!! SWA
TBTRFC Roman CB from wigan, thought was dire, slow, awful on the ball just a big lump and not even that great in the air....
He looked like a rabbit caught in the headlights for most of the first half. I don't know how he did in the second as I couldn't tell who was who down at the Cowshed end but on the basis of his performance at the Kop end, if McChristal's not fit we'd be better of with Kay - Ronnie was singing his praises as a centre back after the Chesterfield game, I don't know why he's had a loss of confidence in him since then. Have to take into account that he hasn't had much time to train with the team though. Might improve for the next game.
He was shaky in the first half hour but the team as a whole were poor early on.Once we had scored he like everybody else dramatically improved and he did well thereafter .
The guy's played 1 game and people are getting Gunnar Neilson syndrome again.
Give the guy 5 or 6 games and then see how he is, rather than saying Kay or Vaulks need a start instead.
Players need time to bed in and Golobart only arrived on Friday, so it's no surprise he might not be 100% sharp just yet, but given time he might sharpen up. Remember he played 18 games for Caley Thistle and netted twice and they are in arguably a slightly harder league, so if he was iffy, he'd never have gotten anything close to 18 games, unless Terry Butcher dropped a clanger in his judgement.
I'm fairly confident he'll bed in okay and people will not need to suddenly start jumping to the conclusion, that Tranmere badly need Valuks or Kay instead.
Then I ate his Liver.......... with some baked beans and a can of coke.
i'd rather play one of 'our' players than someone on loan unless they are actually very good. Gibson is so fair enough there. This lad would be playing for Marine if he wasn't spanish and called roman. The fact he stands out for being poor in a game where we had very little to do defensively says it all. A disaster waiting to happen.

He also got their player of the season, so it would have had to have been more than just Terry Butcher dropping a clanger if he truly is as bad as people are thinking!
Give the guy a break people, he's only just arrived on loan. I thought he was poor at the start but started to get better as the game went on. I think give him a few more games and he will be fine.
That aside I was so impressed with the performance today, it was a great response to Tuesday night and showed what we are capable of. Granted both Orient and Colchester are poor sides but it's nice to see us beating them convincingly and getting some goals in too. Can't remember that last time we had plus 9 goal difference.
The thing that's impressed me most from our start is we've got goals in us and not just from our strikers either. I don't remember looking at a team since Kingy was in charge and seeing that. Without doubt Wallace and Robbo are the key to making us tick but Palmer and Bell Baggie from todays performance are starting to look good. Cassidy has got goals in him, just needs the service but Jean Louise is a phenominal signing, that lad had an outstanding game today causing them problems and creating openings for the goals. Not just that but Zoom is having a fantastic start to the season. He's looking sharp and very fit to, he's still running about all over the place at the end of the match and both of his goals have been fantastic to see.
I would say this side is better than the one Ronnie had when we just missed out on the play offs, we just need to keep it up and hope that we can keep our main men fit.
Wigan fan here. Roman made a horror start to his loan at cally last year in his first 2 games but ended up their player of the year. Due to his performances pre season a lot of latics supporters thought he would be breaking in to the first team this year, give him a week to settle before making your mind up about him. At his best hes a rock in defence, good on the ball but has a mistake or 2 in him, specially when he gets over confident and the back heels etc come out
i cant understand why when we win 4-0 and everybody played well and poor mainly in first half why, people still need to pick out one person and slate him can we not just focus what was a great performance from everyone, and i do have to say to all those who said bell baggie or baggie bell what ever way round it is should have got a contract i think he has shown exactly why he draw in alot of challenges i think he won 7 free kicks yesterday on a different day some players would have had second yellow cards i think he deserves the first team slot
i too am at a loss reading the comments after the game. the lad from wigan came in looked a bit dodgy at first but soon settled down. you wouldn,t have thought we,d won 4-0. iknow colchester were not great but their front two (sears & morrison) have a lot of experience lets just enjoy the games ang get behind whatever team RM puts out.
Unfortunately people will do this. That's why Morrow got slated before he had even started his trial and Gunnar Neilson got slated after 1 poxy game and then another game 2.5 months later after injury and Enoch got slated after 45 minutes of a friendly.
If players get 5 or 6 straight games, then there's enough evidence to judge, but after half a game, or one friendly or one league game there isn't, so people should give more benefit of the doubt, unlike Morrow who suffered death by Wikipedia, the moment his trial was announced.
However rational and fair this is though, it will not change the minority, who see it as their right to slate new players for very little and nobody elses to out them for it.
I'm sure it happens at other clubs, but it is dissapointing, but you just have to ignore the minority and have more belief in new players as an individual, not follow the herd.
Then I ate his Liver.......... with some baked beans and a can of coke.
Thats just Tranmere fans. In recent history, the following list ALL got slated early on, and went on to be decent.
Showumni
Zoom
Holmes (upon returning)
Akins
There's more that don't spring to mind immediately, but the above proves my point. I also saw someone on Friday having a dig at Cassidy, saying he wasn't gonna amount to much! And it has been said that Bell Baggie could only do a job late on in the game. I think these 2 proved a point here on Sat.
I'm sure a lot of fans would like us to be signing worldwide superstars at times, and even they would probably be slated before playing a few games!
I thought second half we were superb. JLAA ran their defence ragged, they just could not handle him. Cassidy as has been said is a predator. Give him the service and 9/10 he will score.
It really is refreshing to see us attack teams, and we have a lot of pace in the side now. Special mention for Gibson as well. Hope to see his loan extended, solid as a rock.
