Tranmere Rovers signed Marlon Broomes on a free-transfer last summer, with the player a free agent following his release by Blackpool.

An experienced campaigner, Broomes, born in Birmingham, had previously played for many clubs, including Stoke City, Crewe Alexandra, Preston North End, Sheffield Wednesday and Queens Park Rangers after starting his career with Blackburn Rovers.

Having made over 250 career appearances, Broomes has plenty of experience and is capable of playing both at centre-back and at right-back, two positions he occupied during his 35 appearances for the club last season.

During the campaign, Broomes became an important player for the club as his experience was vital at the back, especially towards the end of the season as Tranmere stepped up their performances late on in order to beat the drop.

Broomes was one of five out of contract players that signed a new contract with the club ahead of the 2010/11 season, penning a new one-year deal.
