Ronnie Moore was delighted to finally see a last minute goal go the way of his side as Antony Kay broke Brighton hearts with a 93rd minute winner to move them to within four points of a play-off place ahead of the Christmas period of games courtesy of a 1-0 win.
Rovers Boss Ronnie Moore was delighted that his side scored a late goal rather than conceding one as they have in recent weeks after Antony Kay's 93rd minute winner earned Tranmere a 1-0 win over Brighton at Prenton Park on Saturday afternoon.
Moore told the Tranmere Rovers Official Website...
"I know the quality wasn't good, but it's about perseverance. The build up to the goal was nice. Ian bent it from 25 yards, it hit the post, Kaysy missed it, Shukes hit it, it was saved fell to Kaysy and he scores."
"It's about time. It wasn't a sparkling performance and one or two in the crowd were getting angry, but it's about 90 minutes. It's hard when they're booed off at half time, but you understand why one or two get frustrated as no-one gets more frustrated than me."
"They came and stifled us, and you can see how they can grind out results. It's hard for the lads when you consider what's happened in the last week and that they've been playing Saturday and Tuesday for weeks, but now they can get their feet up for a couple of days. It was a massive result for us."
"Greeny has had a back problem and was struggling with it today. He gave us 70 odd minutes and we needed to do something. We put Willo in to get on it as they had gone 4-3-3 and he changed the game with his use of the ball."
Meanwhile, Albion boss Micky Adams was less happy after he felt his side dominated the game and deserved a draw at the very least if not a win.
He told the Brighton and Hove Albion Official Website.............
"I didn't think we deserved to lose, but it's a cruel game. It was a battling performance and in the second half we played particularly well. We really took the game to them but it was a massive kick in the teeth at the end."
"We controlled the game for long periods of it. Our three in midfield, particularly Bradley Johnson, got forward with good effect. We hit the post, got into decent areas and maybe just lacked a bit of confidence. But certainly we did enough to win the game."
Speaking of his sides' penalty shout shortly before Rovers' winning goal, Adams added...
"It's a penalty. Stuart Fleetwood is about to side foot it into the net and his legs are taken from behind. It's a penalty. The referee will get a match DVD, as I will, and he'll see that it's a penalty and he'll be disappointed that he's not given it."
"All I can do is mark him down on major decisions, because that was a major decision. He's not had many major decisions today, and he's got one wrong."
"We've got to stand up and be counted. We've got a big game coming up against Colchester and then again against Swindon. The games are going to come thick and fast, and we've got to pick ourselves up."
"This group of players will pick themselves up but they're obviously disappointed with the result today. We know what we've got to do. I certainly don't feel we're a bottom-four side after that performance. We've got a lot to look forward to and hopefully my players will come out flying against Colchester to try and get us out of the bottom four. I certainly don't feel that we should be there."
