Rovers Learn Fee Received for Davies

After a two week delay to proceedings, Rovers finally learned today how much they will receive for the transfer of Steve Davies to Championship side Derby County during the summer after the out of contract winger moved to Pride Park after almost a whole season out injured.

After another disappointing result away at Leicester at the weekend, there was some fairly good news today for the Club and its fans with the outcome of the Steve Davies tribunal finally being decided.

Winger Davies joined the East Midlands Club in the summer following their relegation from the Premiership in spectacular and almost hilarious style in 2007/08 but despite Davies being out of contract at Prenton Park, his age ensured that Derby owed Rovers a fee for the striker and when one could not be agreed between the Clubs, a tribunal date was set.

Davies, Steve

After the cancellation of the tribunal on its initial date two weeks ago, today became the day and it's fair to say that for Tranmere Rovers, the outcome looks favourable to some extent.

The hearing this morning decided the following outcomes in Rovers' favour....

  • A £275,000 payment upfront.
  • Additional payments of £62,500 every time Davies makes fifteen appearances (15, 30, 45 and 60 appearances) making a total appearance add-on of £250,000.
  • A £200,000 payment if Derby are promoted to the Premiership within the next three years assuming Davies remains at the Club in that time period.
  • A 15% sell-on clause when Davies moves on from Pride Park.

Assuming Davies makes the right amount of appearances and if Derby also get promoted, Rovers could therefore stand to net at least £725,000 from the deal not including any possible sell-on fee - a deal that most Rovers fans will agree is a good one for the Club.

Some will still rue the fact that the Club did not take the offer (believed to be around £400,000) from Leeds United last January and have the money in the bank rather than relying on potential bonus payments but this deal appears a good one for the Club.

With rumours now rife that defeat for Derby tonight will spell the end of Paul Jewell's reign as Manager it could be a busy few days for Derby

im quite pleased with that to be honest.

we are likely to get the 250,000 for appearances as he has already made a couple of subbed appearances.

so even though most trfc fans now dis-like derby most would probably be willing them to get promoted, weird haha.

The story above gives a bit more of a breakdown on the appearance thing than even the Official Website does.

£62,500 for every 15 appearances made by Davies up to 60 appearances!

Davies didn't go to the tribunal but sent a note saying Tranmere did nothing for him.

Les Parry must be so angry.

That note business is disgusting! Why on earth would he do that? Tranmere gave him his career and paid for his wages and fixed him when he was injured.... if lots of people come to find out about this note i think he will be compared with Sean Thornton. Ungreatful @#$%&

Just read it! I'm disgusted at him! I can understand his move.... but the lack of respect he showed is completely unfair, i think Derby ought to slam some respect into him or he could do the same if a new offer came in in the coming years!

I hope when we play them next season Ian Goodison gives him a good lesson and Les Parry a good kicking!

In 3 years time Davies will be in league 2. I do hope he ends up washing cars and collecting bins!!!
