Any Rovers fans who have a copy of the book ‘Tranmere Rovers 1921-1997 - A Complete Record' will be interested to hear that an update of this publication has been agreed for release next year.
Tranmere Rovers historians Gil Upton, Steve Wilson and Peter Bishop reached agreement with Breedon Books, the UK's leading publisher of football record books in early February, to publish their new and comprehensive Complete Record of the Club since 1884.
It is hoped that the book will be published in August of next year (2009) to coincide with the start of the 2009/10 football season and will be a hardback book consisting of around 500 or so pages.
It will be generously illustrated and will no doubt become a must have ‘Bible' for all those interested in the history of our great Club.
Steve Wilson, co-author of the book said, "Ten years after ‘Tranmere Rovers 1921-1997 - A Complete Record' and we are at it again. I look forward to working with Gilbert Upton and Peter Bishop and am delighted to have such a highly reputable publisher as Breedon".
Breedon's Managing Director, Steve Caron, is hoping to organise an advance subscription list for fans to get their name in the book too. Details will be announced when the list opens early in 2009.
Based on the authors' research over the last twenty years, we are told that the contents of the book will include a History of the Club, Mini-Biographies of over 130 selected Players and of Past Managers and a History of Prenton Park.
It is also likely to include seasonal tables of results, teams, scorers, attendances etc (1919-2009), seasonal tables of results (1884-1919 and 1939-1946) as well as Memorable Rovers Matches and playing records, dates of birth etc of over 750 players since 1921. Other content is reportedly still to be decided.
The price of the book will be decided nearer the time and is expected to be around £20.00 so stay tuned for further information on this.
