All the News and Statistics ahead of the visit of promoted Scunthorpe United to Prenton Park on Saturday afternoon in Coca-Cola League One as Tranmere aim to spoil the Iron’s Championship winning party.

Coca-Cola League One at Prenton Park

 

 

Rovers’ next opponents will arrive at Prenton Park as a team that is newly promoted from League One, but more importantly for them they could leave the Wirral as Champions of League One for this season.

 

A win for Scunthorpe at Prenton Park this weekend would see them crowned as Champions if Bristol City fail to win at Carlisle but even if Bristol City do win and Scunthorpe also beat Rovers, it would leave Bristol City having to overcome a goal difference of at least 14 in the remaining two games to prevent United becoming Champions.

For Rovers, there is the mathematical possibility of still reaching the play-offs although realistically the chance has now gone.  Rovers would be required to win their three remaining League matches and rely on a number of slips from other teams just above them.

 

When these two sides met in December, Rovers fell behind to an Andy Keogh goal just before half time but right after the break, the visitors equalised through Shane Sherriff to take a draw in a game which arguably Rovers deserved to win on the night.

 

Ahead of this game, Rovers have only won three of their last six home games whilst away from home Scunthorpe have won three, drawn two and lost just one (at Northampton).

 

A good following is expected from Scunthorpe as they celebrate promotion to the Championship but hopes will be high amongst the Rovers fans that their team can spoil the party on the day as Ronnie Moore looks set to give some younger players the chance to show their worth in preparation for next season.

Rovers will be displaying their new Home Kit for next season in the Club Shop before the game on Saturday and also on the pitch when a Player will model the new Shirt before Kick-Off.

 

 

Tranmere Rovers

 

Rovers will again be without midfield pair John Mullin and Jason McAteer who both serve out the final game of their three match suspensions after both being sent off at Blackpool on Easter Saturday.

 

Long term absentee John Achterberg (knee) will also miss out again whilst Manager Ronnie Moore looks likely to give first team experience to the likes of Craig Curran and Steve Davies in preparation for re-building his squad over the summer.
