Tranmere have today announced that striker Chris Greenacre has signed a new two-year deal at the Club that keeps him at Prenton Park until 2009.

 

It’s a happy Friday 13^th for Rovers fans after the Club announced this morning that striker Chris Greenacre has signed a new two-year contract that will keep him at Prenton Park until 2009.

 

For most Rovers’ fans, the main priority this coming summer was the securing of a new contract for Rovers top goalscorer of the last two seasons and with the season still four games away from it’s close, that ambition has already been realised with today’s news.

 

Brian Little signed Greenacre in the summer of 2005 on a two-year contract after a fairly unsuccessful spell at Championship side Stoke City in which he had been plagued by injury.

 

Since arriving at Tranmere, the former Manchester City, Mansfield Town and Stoke City player has succeeded in being the Club’s top goalscorer in his first season and looks almost certain to repeat that feat again this season as he currently boasts 19 goals this campaign.

 

His re-signing is sure to boost season ticket sales for Rovers although much will depend on who else signs and who leaves during the summer.

 

Greenacre who is 29 has so far scored 37 goals for Rovers in just inder two seasons so the news of his signing until 2009 will be a huge lift to fans and players alike.

 

Speaking to the Official Rovers site, Manager Ronnie Moore said…..

“It is a fantastic signing for the Club. Chris has had some great times since he has been here and this shows his commitment to Tranmere.   He is a joy to work with, a constant threat to opposing teams and a model professional.  Hopefully he will finish the season with at least 20 goals.”

"We are trying to bring and retain the best players to Tranmere and keeping Chris here for the next two years shows he has got faith in what we are doing."

Greenacre himself said "I'm delighted to have signed a new contract at Tranmere. I said when I signed originally that I was here for the long haul and I'm pleased the Club want me to stay.”

"Tranmere showed faith in me two years ago and I'm very thankful for that. Hopefully I can continue to repay them by scoring goals.”

"We'll continue to do everything we can to push for promotion this season, but if we don't achieve that, then hopefully we'll get it next season."
