Johnstone's Paint Trophy at Prenton Park

By Deadly Submarine

In the second of what is now a run of four consecutive away matches, Darlington are the visitors to Prenton Park for the second round of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.

Having beaten another League Two side Bury 2-0 in the first round of the competition two weeks ago, Rovers face more opposition from that division in the shape of Darlington who had a bye in the first round.

A Club in turmoil in recent weeks, Darlington appointed former Doncaster Rovers Manager Dave Penney as their new Manager on Monday after previously sacking David Hodgson on 4th October amid a Club investigation about payments to agents in player transfers.

Darlington have only won one of their last six games in League Two and Rovers boast a similar record with last Saturday’s win over Bournemouth in League One being their first in seven League matches.

At home however, Rovers have won three and drawn and two of their last six games with a single defeat coming against Port Vale, their first home loss of the season.

On the road, the Quakers have only lost once in their last six but only one of those other five games was a win at Peterborough back in September.

The last time the two teams met was in the old League Division 4 back in the 1988/89 season.  The first meeting in that season was at Prenton Park just before Christmas 1988 when Rovers won 2-0 and in the following April, Rovers took the three points for a second time away from  home, winning 2-1.

As in the last round of the competition, if the game is tied after ninety minutes it will go straight to a penalty shoot-out.
