Leeds go into tonights clash with Derby with no new injury worries. Kevin Blackwell has a full squad to pick from apart from the injured Steve Stone and suspended David Healy. Despite dominating Saturdays game against Ipswich, Leeds were hit by two goals on the counter attack. The same happened in the previous home game against Brighton, and the time may have come for Blackwell to make some changes at the back. Away from home, the Gregan and Butler partnership works well. We sit deep, and soak up the pressure. As a result, their lack of pace isn’t expoited as team cannot get in behind us. Their reading of the game serves us well, and they are ideal defenders when under pressure. However, at home, it’s a different matter. We push on, and try to take the game to the opposition. As a result, we defend nearer the halfway line, leaving us open to the swift counter attack. In this case, their lack of pace is apparent, and teams are starting to play on it. Bringing Matthew Kilgallon into certainly the home games, may be a better option. Kila isn’t lightening fast, but is quicker than the current two. Gregan could then sit in front of the back four, probably in place of Einarsson, who has struggled a bit, allowing Derry to push on. The other change could be up front. Hulse and Creswell are similar, and Blackwell is known to favour the big man little man front two. Hulse should really be vying with Cresswell to partner Blake or Healy. Creswells two goals against Rotherham last week though, alongside Hulse, gave the manager little option but to play them both, but Blake may get a start tonight. Leeds are now in 11th place, but with two games in hand. However, if we fail to win tonight, the pressure on Blackwell will start to grow, as Bates will be looking for a return for his investment….
