Leeds snatched a last gasp draw in a pulsating game at Elland Road in a game during which both sides had spells of superiority... It was Leeds who started the brighter, Healy and Hulse both missing chances, as Leeds laid siege to the Brighton goal. It is no exaggeration to say that the home side could have been 4 or 5 up in the first 20 minutes. However, as we have learnt before, if you don’t take your chances, you can get punished, and so it proved to be. A quick breakaway from the visitors down the right saw Leon Knight slide home from close range to stun the crowd. Ex Chelsea forward Knight proved to be a real handful to the Leeds defence for the remainder of the game, as Gregan and Butler were pulled all over by the little striker. Halftime came and went, and Leeds pressed for the equaliser. It was Brighton though who grabbed the next goal, Knight down the left playing a cross field ball to Seb Carole, who controlled, and as defenders stood off, rifled home in front of the South Stand. It could have been all over, but Leeds are made of sterner stuff these days. Sub Jonathon Douglas crossed for man of the moment Healy to score from close in on 65 minutes. The momentum was with Leeds now, and Healy scored again on 70, volleying home after a scramble. It was all set up for a United win now, but the third goal wouldn’t come, and it was the visitors who looked like they had snatched it – a cross turned into his own net by Gregan, who could do little about it. Leeds threw everything forward, and in the last minute, Healy’s shot was saved, but the rebound hammered home by Douglas for his first goal. In the grand scheme of things, a draw is points dropped, but the way we came back gives hope for the season. After 4 clean sheets, the way our lack of pace was exposed at centre back was worrying, something Blackwell may need to address before tomorrow nights trip to Sheffield Wednesday.
