Leeds secured a massive three points last night with a hard earned 2-1 victory. As at the weekend, results, by and large, went Leeds' way, and they now find themselves just 3 points from an automatic play off place.
The first half was a hard slog - Preston going close early, but Schmichael saved superbly onto the bar. Leeds grew into the game, without creating much, but took the lead. Robert Snodgrass burst down the right, and when his cross was cleared, Neil Kilkenny fired a superb 25 yard shot into the corner of the net. The rest of the half saw Leeds press, but Preston held firm.
The second half saw Preston start brightly - but it was Leeds' class in front of goal that told. Striker Billy Paynter scored his first goal since his summer move from Swindon, firing home from 16 yards.
It should have been game over soon after - Payner seizing on a mistake, but hitting the post, when he realyl should have scored.
The home side then got back into the game - Hulme with a superb long range shot to close the gap. Schmichael then had to be alert to save well from Ellington, but Leeds held on for their second straight win, and head into Saturdays game with Ipswich high on confidence.
