Leeds 2 Hull 2

Although Leeds ‘threw away’ 2 points last night, it shouldn’t detract from what actually a very good performance.  Despite a bright start from Leeds, it was Hull who took the lead.

Bradley Johnson’s lunge resulted in a free kick which John Bostock hit like a tracer bullet into the top corner – it was a superb strike.  Leeds pushed back though, and Howson dragged wide from Becchio’s lay off.  The home side continued to press, and eventually got the goal they deserved – Gradel chased a through ball, which the under pressure defender made a mess of – the ball fell to Becchio who mis controlled with his thigh – fortunately it ran to Johnson who drove home a fine strike from 20 yards.   Hull came back and only a goal line clearance from Bruce prevented a goal – the resulting corner was then headed wide from a great position.

The second half was all Leeds – Becchio’s left foot curler hit the bar, as the Whites pressed constantly.  A poor corner from Snodgrass was half cleared to Howson, but his superb pass back to Snoddy gave him another chance – this time, after a step inside his cross was powered home by Andy O’Brien.  It should have been game over shortly after – Johnson missing a free header from 5 yards.

Still, the game should have been safe when  Bostock’s reckless challenge earned him a second yellow, and subsequent red card.  Leeds, however took their foot off the gas.  Despite the visitors not having an attack of note in the second half, a one goal lead is always dangerous – and so it proved.  A rare break led to a corner – the kick in was weak, but Johnsons lazy swing of the leg resulted the ball flying into his own net.  Leeds still went close – Bruce’s header cleared off the line, but time was up.

Definitely a game we should have won easily but lessons will be learnt from this and the performance was much improved on recent home game offerings.
