Leeds v Liverpool - preview

Leeds will enterntain Liverpool tonight in front of a sell out 40,000 crowd. The Carling Cup clash gives Leeds the chance to pit their wits against one of the big four, in a match that not many years ago would have been a top of the table 6 pointer. Leeds have spectacularly fallen from grace since those heady days - but the tie still stirs up memories.

Think the Lee Chapman hattrick in a 5-4 loss, Mark Viduka's amazing four goals in a 4-3 win, or Tony Yeboah's stunning volley in a 1-0 win.

Nowadays, the clubs are miles away from each other - at least in terms of league positions.  Liverpool are flying high - a constant in the 'big four' whilst Leeds are battling to get out of League 1 (Division 3 to those of us who remember the pre Premiership days) - but are times changing?  At least for the Yorkshire giants?  Leeds boss Simon Grayson has something of a mini reveloution going on.  The former Blackpool manager has got his team flying high - unbeaten all season, winning all but one of their matches - 15 straight home wins in the leagur - a club record, and, after this weekends win, and Norwich's late equaliser against Charlton, sitting top of the table.
So what of tonight?  Leeds will be fielding pretty much their strongest side - a few squad members may push for a recall - Kilkenny, Robinson and Grella may get the call, but all in all, Grayson wants the win.  It's a different story for Liverpool - undoubtably the want the win, but with Champions League games, and the Premiership, they have bigger fish to fry. Squad players and a few youngsters are likely to make up the bulk of the squad, but the likes of N'Gog,  Babbel and even the much maligned Lucas, have plenty of ability to make this a cracking game.

The game is live on Sky, and the game kicks off at 7.45..
