MCDERMOTT BACKING MORGAN |
| Reserve team manager Brian McDermott is backing Reading striker
Dean Morgan to be a success at the club following his performance in yesterday's
5-2 reserve team win over Cheltenham Town which secured the Royals spot in the
last 4 of the Pontins Cup. Both McDermott and Reading Manager Steve Coppell were highly critical of the reserves lack of desire last week despite winning 6-1. Both felt players such as Dean Morgan and Lloyd Owusu weren't pushing as hard for a first team spot as they should be. But Morgan gave the right performance yesterday that will give Coppell a headache for Saturday's 6 pointer trip to Leeds United. The team are in desperate need of a goal and a win after not winning since Boxing Day. McDermott said; "It was generally a very pleasing performance. "Last week we won 6-1 and today it was only 5-2, but this performance was far,far better. "The attitude of the players was very good, and in the first half in particular our performance was excellent. We got a lot out of it - last week we feel we didn't despite scoring six." Speaking on Morgan, he added; "Today Dean showed a real desire and hunger to go with his undoubted ability. If he can produce consistent performances like that, he'll be a very good player." Morgan has made 12 appearances this season, scoring 2 goals. |
