Cardiff City have completed the signing of Welsh international defender Robert Page. The 29-year-old moves to Ninian Park on a free transfer from Sheffield United, having made over 100 appearances for the Yorkshire outfit.

With weeks of fussing and speculation surrounding the £75,000 signing of Lee Bullock, City fans will have been pleasantly surprised to see the arrival of Robert Page as second summer signing to Ninian Park without weeks of press rumours and competition from other clubs. The Welsh international joins the club on a free transfer with reports suggesting the club were in talks with Sheffield United and the player last week.

Page had a year left of his contract to run under Neil Warnock at Brammal Lane, but the Yorkshire-based club have agreed to let the 29-year-old depart on a free transfer as they look to make big changes to their squad to mount a promotion chase next term.

"It's a great move for me and I'm looking forward with tremendous enthusiasm to the start of the season," said Page.

"I've never suffered for second best in my career and I don't intended to start now, I can't wait for that first whistle to the start of the season. I'm a proud man and I feel that there are exciting times ahead for the club and I want to be part of that experience."

Page brings bags of experience to Ninian Park with him, having played a crucial role as skipper for Sheffield United for many seasons, making over 100 appearances for the club following a £300,000 move from Watford in 2001. The Llwynypia-born centre-half had made over 200 appearances for the Vicarage Road outfit before his move north. He is expected to form a defensive partnership with Welsh international team-mate Daniel Gabbidon at the heart of the backline, and Page has been involved with fellow defenders James Collins and Rhys Weston on the international scene.
