Cardiff City winger Paul Parry netted the only goal of Wales' friendly victory over Canada at Wrexham's Racecourse ground. The first-half headed capped an incredible rags to riches story for the youngster, who was playing non-league football earlier this year.

Cardiff City winger Paul Parry netted his first international goal, with his first-half header separating Wales and Canada in a hard-fought friendly game at Wrexham's Racecourse ground. Only months after playing non-league football for Hereford, the youngster nearly headed home a Craig Bellamy cross to secure victory for the hosts.

"I started the season dreaming of things like scoring goals and playing for Wales. It is hard to imagine that I have actually achieved that now by the last game of the season." said the Bluebird, clearly stunned after a fairytale winner which capped an incredible rags to riches story for the former Hereford United midfielder.

"I find myself playing alongside people like Ryan Giggs and I have to pinch myself. Mark Hughes has told me to go out and play without fear, and I hope that is what I have done."

Four other City players were also capped, with Daniel Gabbidon, James Collins, Robert Earnshaw and debutant Martyn Margetson all involved in the game. Margetson re-paid Mark Hughes for bringing him on in the second-half for his first-cap with a string of excellent saves that kept Wales ahead of the close-encounter.
