The Cardiff City reserves have lost their league championship play-off with Reading, going down 3-1 at the Madjeski Stadium. Danny Thomas' late striker was scant consolation for the Bluebirds, who were already down to 9-men at the time, with Rhys Weston one of them dismissed.

The Cardiff City reserve side have missed out on the Pontins Holiday Combination league title after losing a one-legged play-off for the crown against Reading at the Madjeski Stadium.

The Bluebirds enjoyed a successful season in the Wales & West England regional league of the competition, beating Plymouth Argyle to the league championship on their final game of the season, but despite naming a strong side to face the Royals, were rarely in the game.

Over 700 watched a competitive game, where City finished the game with 9-men with Rhys Weston and Anthony Taylor both dismissed for an early shower. The hosts cruised to victory, but bright prospect Danny Thomas gave second-string manager Paul Wilkinson something to smile about in the closing stages, but it was too little, too late, for Cardiff.
