Just a week after the City reserves thumped Oxford 6-1, the Bluebirds have been on the other end of a second-string hammering themselves. Paul Wilkinson's side ended their League Cup qualification campaign with a 4-1 defeat against rivals Bristol Rovers, in a game played at Mangotsfield's ground. New Page 1

Reserves Sunk by Pirates
A strong Cardiff City reserve side, which included 6 members of the first-team squad, ended the second strings League Cup qualification matches with defeat at the hands of rivals Bristol Rovers.

Gavin Gordon did his claims to get back into first-team consideration some good with the opening goal that gave the Bluebirds a deserved lead. However, a City own goal made it honours even and Rovers got their noses in front before half-time leaving City a tough task to get back in the second period.

Despite the efforts of well-known player names such as Jason Bowen and Chris Barker, it was Rovers who scored the next goal which effectively killed the game off, and the Pirates rubbed salt into the wounds of Paul Wilkinson's side with a fourth goal as the game reached a close.

The reserve League Cup campaign has been a bit of a disaster for the Bluebirds, with only two points taken from five group matches. Needless to say City finished bottom of the group, however the team are fairing far better in the reserve league with title ambitions still being harboured by the club.

City Line-Up: Lee-Barrett, Huggins, Parslow, Anthony, Barker, Bowen, Fish, Bonner, Hayward, Gordon, Fleetwood.
