| Australian international Tony Vidmar
has become City's second summer signing after completing his move to Ninian
Park today. Just twelve months ago, Vidmar rejected an offer to join the Bluebirds after receiving a more tempting deal from Middlesbrough. Lennie Lawrence has been quick to not miss out on the 34-year-old this time around though, following his release from the Riverside in June. Vidmar is a versatile player, who can play at both the centre and left side defence, and will bring experience to the City defence. Vidmar has played for Middlesbrough and Glasgow Rangers in recent seasons, having played the best part of his career with the Scottish outfit. He made over 100 appearances for Rangers, helping them to two Scottish Premier League titles, two Scottish Cups, and two Scottish League Cups. City boss, Lennie Lawrence is delighted with the signing, revealing he has received a number of glowing references regarding the Australian. "He's been a target for me for a long time and I tried to entice him here a year ago from Glasgow Rangers," said Lawrence. "Now we've been promoted to the First Division and we've persuaded him to come. He has got great pedigree and it's good to bring experienced professionals to the club as we are a bit short in that department. "Everyone I've spoken to about Tony has had nothing but praise for him and the plan is that he will start at centre-back but his versatility is important to us as he has also played at right-back and left-back." Tony Vidmar is also pleased with the deal, and told the press conference he was delighted that the club offered him another contract twelve months on. "When I spoke to Lennie 12 months ago he was very enthusiastic and I kept my eye on Cardiff last season and was delighted when he came back for me," said Vidmar. "It's a tough division and there are no easy games, and it is going to be a battle but it's a good challenge as we try and get promotion." Welcome to Ninian Park! |
