Match Preview/Stats/Thread: Cardiff City v Newcastle Utd

By Tyne-Talk
October 4 2013

Newcastle United travel to the Cardiff City Stadium tomorrow afternoon on the back of four wins and two defeats from their last six games in all competitions, whilst Cardiff host on the back of two wins, two draws and two defeats from their last six.

Unlike every other game this season, manager Alan Pardew has claimed to have a fully fit squad for the match with Jonas Gutierrez (hamstring), Steven Taylor and Shola Ameobi (illness) all returning. Yohan Cabaye, who started on the bench against Everton on Monday night is expected to start after scoring in the 3-2 defeat.

Malky McKay also has a predominately fit squad with only Andreas Cornelius (foot) struggling to regain his fitness.

Newcastle go into the game on the back of calls for Pardew to be sacked following the woeful defeat on Monday night, whilst McKay has this week claimed that he could have been Pardew’s number 2 back in 2010. As Cardiff seek their third win of the season, Newcastle will be trying to prevent their third consecutive League defeat in a bid to climb the table.

Fact: Cardiff have lost just 3 home games in their last 26 in the League.

Fact: If Craig Bellamy scores he will become the 1st player to score for 7 different Premier League clubs.

Fact: Papiss Cisse hasn’t scored in 12 Premier League games.

We will need to play at least as good as we did in the second half against Everton if we want to win.
I expect us to win 2-1 with possibly that toad Bellamy getting Cardiff's goal.

C'mon Newcastle make us proud. (Sm152)

Cardiff: Marshall, Theophile-Catherine, Caulker, Turner, Taylor, Odemwingie, Gunnarsson, Kim, Medel, Whittingham, Campbell. Subs: Hudson, Noone, Mutch, Cowie, Maynard, Lewis, Bellamy.

Newcastle: Krul, Debuchy, Williamson, Coloccini, Santon, Cabaye, Tiote, Sissoko, Gouffran, Cisse, Remy. Subs: Anita, Ben Arfa, Yanga-Mbiwa, Gutierrez, Elliot, Sammy Ameobi, Dummett.

You're right mental, HBA is on the bench.

I see Pardew prefers Williamson to Yanga-Mbiwa. If he plays as well as last week he'll deserve his place.

That's the best performance I've seen for a while. Williamson played really well, how often can we say that.
HBA wasn't much good when he came on.

A well deserved three points CND smiling smiley

much better from the team, the only criticism i have is Santon, he needs to remember that first and foremost he is a defender and if he's going to attack so much he needs to bust a gut to get back, just like against everton he was nowhere to be seen when we conceded the goal.

i felt sorry for Anita when i saw he had been dropped but cabaye showed why he was picked.

As for Williamson he played well, his defending isn't the problem its when he needs to do something other than head it away or do a simple pass, the team need to recognise this and help him out.

He does look terrified/awkward when he has the ball. He looks like he is panicked every time he has to make a pass and ends up going to Colo often. It's always worrisome when he has to defend set plays, he seems to grab a lot.
Aside from the one miskick though, he did well enough.

Nick, I meant we are in the bottom half of the league not the top and to say you want us to stay on this form shows what a idiot you really are!

Taylor will be back for the next match and will probably go straight into the starting line up!

Anyone else think we should give Dummett a go in the first team and drop Santon

Where is Haidara ?? Is he injured ?? I would play him he was showing some very good signs last year and Dummett seems a decent option too tbh.

To be fair to Nick mental, I'm sure when he said "I hope we stay on this form", he was talking about how well we played, rather than where we are in the table.

Surely if we continue to play like this, as in the first half especially, we will go up.

Yes, I meant that we win a few more matches, and stop jumping from win to loss like we have been doing. smiling smiley

Just call me a doom monger, if you like, but that doesnt change the fact, that we should at least have brought in a couple more signings..

SURE, if we have NO or very few injuries when december is over, everyone will say what a smart move we made..

But, for me, that doesnt change the fact, that it was POOR management, specially from our DOF.

If you decide to have NO service cars during the TDF, and doesnt have a single breakdown, flat tire or run out of water, does that make it a smart move?? Not on my book.
We need to make sure we are covered in the worst case scenario, instead of hoping for the best every time.

Im realistic to, though. Im not crying for the amount of star players, and depth as Chelski, Manure, Shity or Assenal, but fase it, a lot of the teams that we wish to compare ourselves with, are much better prepared for December that we are.

Last, I surely hope for the best, and would like us to finish, at least in the top 8, but for the choices made by the "caretakers", Im pretty disappointed.
Some of you will agree, some will not, but that just my opinion.

i would have liked a couple more players in the summer but our squad has more depth than it has done in a while!

take away the big 4 teams and say spurs and liverpool and our squad is no different from the rest of the teams in the league and to be honest i think we've got better back up players than a lot of the other teams.

The fact that you are saying 'at least in the top 8' just shows how unbelievably wrong everyone was in the summer of 2009, when they thought we were about to do a Leeds. When are people, Toon fans or not, going to acknowledge that they were very wrong indeed? Now people are saying 'at least in the top 8'. I call people doom mongers, because in 2012, when we finished 5th, while I was absolutely thrilled, I found that many Toon fans seemed rather indifferent about it.

Nick> While there would be some different opinions about Mike Ashley here, Im not far away from you. He have done some good things, but made some bad decisions as well.. And our transfer policy this window was a bad decision, even though I agree, that bringing in Remy is a good one, IF we have a clause so we can buy him when the season is over for an agreed fee..
But that we didnt bring in a CB was, in my book, one of the most stupid decisions, in long time.
Face it, Colo is not here after this season, Williamson, I will not even begin with what is wrong with him, Saylor, though he brings some energy, he is nothing more than a backup player, Yanga-Mbiwa has some potential, but is still young.
We should have bought, NOT just someone, but one who could step up in a years time and be captain of the defense. And the only way that we could get a guy fairly cheap AND have him have PL experience, is if we buy him abroad and give him that, when he still have someone to cower for him, and each him.

Look at Villa. I would have loved if we had at least tried to sign some of the youngsters they had, some of them fairly cheap.

Mental> Even though a agree, that we have reasonable depth in some areas, I think that there is positions, that we have none, like CB.

TVA, we have 4 CB's most teams have 4 cb's and take out the main pairing and the back up aren't really of a high standard, we have 3 decent cb's with a 4th who is perfectly capable of performing in this league.

Stoke have 2 cb's!
