News just breaking is that Arsenal have lodged a formal bid, reported to be around £10M for Newcastle United midfielder Yohan Cabaye, just hours ahead of the clubs opening game of the season against Manchester City. Arsenal, who lost their game against Aston Villa at the weekend were booed as they left the field and manager Arsene Wenger was met with chants of "spend some F*&^%$* money throughout the match.

Earlier this month Newcastle manager Alan Pardew told the press that he was worried about losing a big player, with Cabaye being the main name linked at the time to a move to Manchester United but also confirmed that if an offer came it its probable he would be sold. He said at the time;

“That is a worry, we have had that before with Andy Carroll and it was a tricky time to lose Andy when we did. We managed to overcome that but you don’t want to make it a habit. For me, of course I want to keep him.

If one of the big clubs comes in with a massive offer, we will have to react to that. As it stands at the moment there have still been no offers, he remains our player and myself and the fans would love to see him stay come September 2nd – and still be in a black and white shirt.

The speculation about Cabaye is right. He’s a top player and I wouldn’t expect no less. It’s good for his confidence. He’s not caused me one problem and he’s worked really hard.” “His professionalism has been brilliant and our fans need to know that.”
