Toon Wonga Deal Did Not Outbid Virgin Money - Sir Richard

Sir Richard Branson has today revealled that Virgin Money were not given the option to extend their current sponsorship deal beyond this season, nor were they party to any talks prior to the announcement that Newcastle United FC had signed up Wonga to be next season's sponsor. Sir Richard, who was in Gosforth visiting the Virgin Money HQ yesterday discussed the lack of communication and admitted that he would have preferred to have continued the deal....had he been asked.
He told The Chronicle;
“Yeah, we would love to have stayed in touch with the club and the players. It was a great time, the timing was perfect when we took over, we became Virgin Money on the day they beat Manchester United, a great start for us.
The club in their wisdom did the deal with Wonga without talking to us, whether we would have matched that who is to know. These things happen I guess.
We will definitely still sponsor sports, we are still involved in major events, we will still keep an open eye one this.”
Newcastle United have declined to comment on the revelations, but it shows that Virgin Money were not outbid by Wonga, which will infuriate those fans who see the pay day loan sponsorship deal as distasteful.

It always does my head in when people just make announcements for some completely unknown motive - next.
Wasn't really an announcement he was being interviewed. Probably would have looked worse if he had refused to discuss it?
TBH by what he said he didn't say that Virgin had even put a bid in, let alone outbid Wonga. So I don't see the big revelation here if I'm honest, all I got out of it was he would of liked to have been asked to re-bid.
And after that I personally would of much preferred to have Virgin Money on board instead of Wonga. I seem to remember at the time talks of take overs etc - I wonder if leaving them in the dark was a way to crush those rumours or possible ideas ?

I won't be buying a Wonga shirt out of principle. I would rather have had the virgin money keeping the sponsorship deal.

Virgin were waiting to be asked to re-bid, surely Virgin should be knocking on ashleys door asking about rebidding for the sponsorship when it got so close to ending and they wanted it to continue!
to be honest the last sponsors I actually liked was the brewery and that was just becuase I liked the blue star and was a bit of a fan of their products.

Annie first you have to realise how morally bankrupt I truly am, the only reason I never sold my granny into slavery was I couldn't find a buyer.
So you can imagine my shock that there are things even I will not stoop to,
Now I have to get off the moral high ground i am not entirely used to the ambient air temperatures up here and it makes me feel slightly dizzy, so with that in mind I am off to cripple and orphan to get the rather unpalatable taste of moralistic self righted indignation I feel towards the loan sharks

Loan sharks are absolute @#$%& the way they pray on the most vulnerable in society, why they are not regulated better is way beyond me. How many of them now have TV ads off all that stolen revenue they receive, then in the small print it always has 3000% ar etc, which is an absolute joke, how the @#$%& should it warrant anything like that.
But I also blame the banks too including Virgin Money (to some degree) they were all bailed out by the tax payer, extra revenue was made available to encourage reinvestment and making loans accessible to the ordinary people, yet I know for a fact if I wanted a loan or mortgage etc I wouldn't stand a chance in hell despite having no bad credit history.
The that's another thing the credit history reports etc - what a waste of money and@#$%&system for deciding who is fit and who is not to get a loan.

I'm not sure my granny has been dead a while now, and I am not sure of the british postal system laws of posting dead people, they were livid last time we tried it.
Anything to do with money in this economic climate is a joke. The rich fat cat bankers are ripping us off just the same as Wonga and the like. We should find a sponsor to do with the area perhaps a local business just a thought.
There's not that many that could afford the outlay, i dont think there are any premier league clubs who aren't sponsored by a national/international brand!
As for the suitability of being sponsored by wonga, is it any worse than endorsing alcohol or gambling?
The government has ordered the likes of Wonga to clean up their act and practices and it wouldn't suprise me if in the future high street banks like Virgin aren't offering these short term loans, i say in the future but i wouldn't be suprised if someone did a bit of digging they would discover that high street banks are behind a lot of these payday loan companies!

Indeed money is hard earned by most of us but easily parted with aswell. My mortgage for example if I want to settle my repayments early it would cost me 3,000 quid. If that's nut a rip off then I'm the Pope. Just flying back to Rome as we speak.
