Newcastle United FC have announced the departure of eleven players today with five other players being offered new contracts. Alan Smith, who has made 94 appearances for the club in 5 seasons, Danny Guthrie, who the club were unable to reach an agreement on a new contract with and Peter Lovenkrands who made 85 appearances and scored 26 goals have all been released by the club.
Joining them are Ryan Donaldson (midfielder), Phil Airey (forward), Samuel Adjei (forward), Stephen Folan (defender), Jeff Henderson (midfielder), Tamaz Kadar (defender), Greg McDermott (midfielder) and Patrick Nzuzi (defender).
New contracts have been offered to James Tavernier (defender), Bradden Inman (midfielder), Paul Dummett (defender), Michael Richardson (midfielder), Conor Newton (midfielder).
Guthrie will probably have the pick of about 13 PL clubs to sign for!
Its a shame about Kadar i always thought he was going to break into the first team at some point but obviously all those injuries have affected his development!
Bet Ashley's been looking forward to getting Smith off the books for a while (as have I). I wonder if he's still got that XXXXL Smith 17 shirt knocking about?
Would rather have kept Guthrie, makes a really good third choice behind Cabaye and Tiote. His call though.
