Pardew Confirms Final Mariappa Bid

By Tyne-Talk

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has confirmed the club have made a final improved bid for Watford defender Adrian Mariappa. The club have already had 2 bids for the 25 year old rejected and it is rumoured that they also turned down a bid from Wigan.

Pardew said;

"We have made our last bid now and it's a final bid so if he doesn't come today then he probably won't come to this football club because in the summer we will probably look elsewhere."

Elsewhere Wigan fans are claiming they have secured the deal.

Putting all your eggs in one basket again Mr Pardew? Seems like we'll be without a defender this window...

Wow. AP's diarrhea of the mouth strikes again.

Crossing our fingers that neither Williamson nor Colo miss time for the rest of the season? Again, we've scouted one player? And Ridgwell's going to WBA? Pfft.

Latics lead Mariappa chase...

Why the hell would he chose Wigan over us - are footballers really that stupid?

If they're getting higher wages from "lesser" teams they generally are. Footballers go where the money is.

he's probably been guaranteed first team football there whether it be in the PL of championship!

I see your points,

BUT, if he thinks like that do we want him? Shouldn't he be aiming to play at the highest level!?!

i'd rather not buy anyone than buy Mariappa, if we do then it means the only central defender we buy in the summer will come after colo leaves!

If we are going to bring in a central defender simply as cover do it on loan!

Sorry guys-gotta disagree. As it is, we're relying on Perch to play CB for any games missed by Colo & Williamson. I'd be happy with a loan of a PL-proven player right now. We're a few defenders short but I'll take one for now.

Thats what i mean Tunyc how do we know that Mariappa is better thasn Perch, if we aren't going to buy a decen player then loan one!

Uh, I dare say Mariappa's better than Perch. The former has been subject to multiple bids from PL teams whereas we couldn't give Perch away to any PL side. Plus, CB is Mariappa's actual position.

Leaving him aside, I know I like Liam Ridgwell from having seen him play. WBA beat us to that one.

At this point, are you happy with our defense?

Latest is that Wigan's bid was rejected but that we're still not going any higher. So yeah, we shouldn't be held to ransom here though it would be nice to have a Plan B.

no i'm not but i'd rather loan someone like bassong till the summer and go for a quality player rather than buy mariappa today and not strengthen in the summer

Understood-but if this is the guys our scouts have selected, I don't see the huge risk. The same scouts will set our targets in the summer. I don't see it as we buy Mariappa now or get a top, top player in the summer. My guess is whoever it is will be in the same class. And also, for the summer: there's the issue of Colo. It would be nice to have our depth in defense sorted before that.

According to Sky we've still a chance of getting him.
He has turned down the chance to talk to Wigan.

Latest: he's in their squad for tonight's game. Not gonna happen.

Saw him against Totenham I was impressed only beaten by a shot from long range. He looked very solid and calm on the ball something Williamson struggles with at times.

Never been a fan of Ridgewell decent in the air but overall feel he lacks in ability.

Mariappa in the squad worries me it is now very unlikely but can be possibly a loan with a permanent move in the summer.

I hope we have some other iron in the fire-loan or whatever.

And I also hope we can get Colo signed sooner than later and get Ba an extension (no release clause).

I'd prefer a back line with Perch in it to Sunderlands "new look" back line of Wayne Bridge, Wes Brown, Sotiris Kyrgiakos and John O'Shea.

I fear that Watford will be more reluctant to lower their valuation (believed to be about £5m) after allowing Marvin Sordell to talk to Bolton.

Is that Greek kid Manolas out of the picture?

Apparently we have put £1.25M on the table.

If Wigan were offering nearer the £4/5M they want no wonder they initially accepted it!

NtS-I hear you. Thing is, we're already well ahead of the Mackems. I'd like to stay there.

Number I heard was more like what Jonny said. Seems like they wanted 4/5M and nobody would go there.
