As Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew was discussing the possibility of a new signing before the weekend, but failing to identify his target, he also confirmed that any club who has shown an interest in striker Andy Carroll has been told the player is not for sale.
Pardew told The Gazette;
"We have given the answer to anyone who has contacted us that he's not for sale - it's as simple as that. I can't say strongly enough that Andy Carroll will not leave in this window, 100 per cent."
On the subject of a new signing he added;
"We've made a few enquiries and are talking to one particular club trying to get a deal done before the weekend.
It think that'll be quite important now."
Both Steven Taylor (hamstring) and Cheik Tiote (hamstring) are huge doubts for the weekend's FA Cup game against Stevenage, whilst Andy Carroll (thigh), Shola Ameobi (knee), Alan Smith (ankle), Sol Campbell (illness), Ryan Taylor (ankle) and Hatem Ben Arfa (broken leg) are all absent.
Dan Gosling (knee) could make the squad at the weekend.
I think AP would have rested him anyway, Carys. We're still a promoted side and job #1 is staying up. As he pointed out, this will be our 5th game in 13 days. Not surprised we have guys out with strained hammies.
Larsson and Bentley are the top two names people have been throwing around regarding this purchase. I'd take either in a heartbeat, but would prefer the Swede.
well, the club are allowing expectations to rise, and pardew is doing nothing to cool the talk, quite teh opposite in fact. here's hoping we do some good business (more good business, that is, as we have already signed ben arfa) this window
I'm not sure. I think the rules regarding Bosman moves are different in the UK to the rest of Europe. I don't understand exactly how it works.
But I do know if he won't resign Birmingham are kind of forced to sell him now and at least get some money for him rather than letting him leave for free in June.
With them signing Bentley on loan that would raise one's suspicions that Larsson won't be resigning and will be moving on. Hopefully to us.
OTL I reckon your right, Bentley is going there and Larson will be moving on, if you are in a relegation fight and you were the gaffer then you would want people who are going to give everything and want to be at club otherwise it could have a effect in the changing room.
I think he would be a great signing for us, and couldn't see it costing more than 1.5m
Again, can't he negotiate with any club at this point? lmk, you know all this s.hit-what's the deal? Pardew might find the prospect of getting him on a free very attractive as it will be palatable to AshleyCo.
He can talk to clubs now and sign for them but it means he wouldn't move until the summer. Lots of clubs buy them now even though it costs them money and if a 1.5m signing can get you an extra 2 places in the league then you have already got your money back nether mind how much you have saved if they keep you up
