Former NUFC defender Sebastien Bassong has spoken up about his former club and has backed them to prosper. Bassong who was nearly an unknown was signed during the reign of Kevin Keegan in the summer of 2008 for a bargain fee of £500,000 before parting company with the then relegated club.
Bassong spoke after he featured as a substitute for Tottenham Hotspur in their 2-0 win over his former club on December 28th at White Hart Lane.
Despite receiving an unkind reception from some of the travelling Toon fans, Bassong said; “I hope they get better for the rest of the season and stay in the Premier League” and he also mentioned that he feels a debt of gratitude towards Newcastle for giving him his big chance in English football.
“I really wish the club can stabilise and settle down, and that they will work with the manager for a long time, If they do that, the club will go up and up, for sure."
Got sent off in a vitally important match in the run in.
And now he wishes us well.
Who cares?
The one thing he has in his favour is that he wasn't on massive wages while in the process of getting us relegated like Duff.
I would have used Owen as the prime example but its pretty hard to play well when you have a permanent saddle sore from sitting on a physio table for 3 years.
I was gutted when he refused to play in the pre season friendly and then eventually moved on. He is a class act and could have been part of the future of the club.
But as Tuncy said, we made a bundle off him so f00k it.
We could have sold him for 20 million and I still wouldn't give a @#$%& what he had to say about our club.
Transfer fees are irrelevant when it comes to whether or not the opinion of a mercenary fukwit's opinion is relevant. Specifically because it is never relevant.
What does Jean-Alain Boomsong think of our chances of avoiding relegation? The answer. Who cares?
I was thinking mainly of the money we made when I penned the article.
True he abandoned ship when we were in trouble but we did make a tidy profit off him - so no hard feelings at my end towards Bassong
