dont mind, hope everyone & the players get behind him & he can continue what Hughton has left behind, dont think it will be all singing and dancing but we have a chance to stay in this division if we just accept it, and get on with trying to win games, the Premiership is close this season with teams having the beating of one & other!

best way to look at it for the Pardew doubters! hughton 19 points from 16 games, 3 matches off half a season with the next fixtures being Liverpool Birmingham Man City, I guess a piont from those 3 fixtures, so possible 20 piont for Chris,

Clark has already said he won't be joining Newcastle. He is a young manager doing well in the lower leagues and a former player but he wouldn't suit the experienced manager profile the club are said to be looking for anyway.

Whoever the manager is, we need to give him our full backing come Saturday and the rest of the season, as Newcastle United is more important than our disgust for Mike Ashley.

Pardew is basically the cheapest option possible. If he is announced tomorrow as our new manager, I'm boycotting until Ashley gets his fat ass out of toon.

The bookies setup Hughtons replacement odd on the 22nd October and put Pardew right at the top of the list, which means they were 'in the know'. Hughton has been stitched up after getting the Fat idiot out of jail.

Ashley is a shameful disgrace and Pardew is in on the scam (running the club on a shoe string).

I've paid for the Liverpool ticket so will go along and boo Pardew at every opportunity.

What a farce. Yet another clown who won't last 18 months at St James's Park. Why do Newcastle United keep making these utterly disastrous managerial appointments? The thing about this club is that they give the job to managers who we the fans KNOW without any doubt, right from day one are not good enough and will only take the club backwards. Souness, Allardyce, Kinnear and now Pardew, when will it ever end?

Ashley has really plumbed the depths this time. A Premiership club bringing in a manager whose most recent job was in the third tier of English football but not only that, he was SACKED from that job. It makes the appointment of Fat Joe Kinnear a couple of years ago look like a major coup.

This appointment speaks volumes about Ashley's ambitions for Newcastle United. Pardew satisfies all Ashley's requirements for a manager:

1. Cheap
2. Available/out of work
3. So desperate for a job he'll work under conditions no decent manager will accept...no tranfers funds, selling our best players etc.

I just wonder which joker Ashley will come up with this time next year when Pardew is sacked after a defeat to Scunthorpe leaves us in the Championship relegation zone.

18 months??? thats how long we had him for and when he started we were in the Prem. Look at us now.

I think it comes down to the fact that he didnt want to offer chris an improved contract, and pardew will jump at the chance to get any job, he would've taken the tea ladie's if they'd offered it to him!

As much as I don't think he is the right man for the job, I'll only judge him on what the team does on the field. Let's hope we can remain a Premier league club and take things from there.

Even if I thought this was an acceptable signing, I'm never going to get emotionally attached to any manager or player anymore as long as Ashley is here. I have no idea what to expect when the inevitable bids for AC come in January, but I am mentally preparing for the possibility of his leaving.

the bit in bold. kinda sums up what i said on monday (or whenever it broke) and we disagreed. i'm not being sentimental about chris, deliberately.

as for the new guy, well, no-one wanted chris hughton, including me, last august. he won us over, on and off the pitch. just on the pitch would have done, and i'll settle for that with this guy.

i said i'd rather have kinnear than pardew, but we have pardew so lets see what he does.

Whereas Martin Jol, whom I respect but never liked, has gone up greatly in my estimation by basically saying he's not going to take the job over the body of his friend.

FFS, nothing seems fishy to you about a guy being signed to a 5.5 year contract less than a week after the last guy was fired? My view is like most, very underwhelmed but lets back him the best we can. Im worried about the circus that will be Saturday and all the press and cameras that will be hoping for a right show. He came across well in the press conference but like he sais its on the pitch that counts.

He might have a 5 1/2 year contract but am I right in thinking that part of contract means that he doesnt get a pay out if sacked. If thats the case then it makes little or no difference.

Was thinking today that if this doesnt pay off then it could back fire massively for Ashley. This is the last year for the three year season ticket bond type thingy. I dont know the exact numbers but I believe a lot of people (including myself and pals) signed up for this scheme. Ive heard a few people I know say they were thinking/going to jack in their tickets and that was before this latest segment in the saga. If they dont stay up then I think we will get half the crowds we did last season. I think the crowds last season (at the start anyway) would have been a bit lower without the scheme. With peoples feelings running high after this people really might just say, F00K this.

Yes, Ashley will still be stinking rich, but if people did stay away for numerous reasons then it really could be a nightmare..... and i wouldnt blame anyone for doing so. The acid test will be in January. Whether the wrong players get sold or none come in or both.

Saying i'd boycott may have been an over reaction, I've simply given up interest in giving Ashley my money, he is stringing us along exploiting our loyalty. Ashley knew we didn't want Pardew, but appointed him anyway.

Surprisingly after watching the Pardew interview i felt slightly sorry for him having to do it alone. He was properly hung out to dry.


I guess I'll become a fair weather fan and only go to the games I really fancy. So if Pardew can put together a team that plays good football he'll get more of my money. If he can't he wont.

Did you see his first press conference? It was just him, the tea lady, a chair and an advertising board.

I am hoping Biffins is right about the contract that there is no payout, as I can't see why we give him a 5.5 yr contract especially as he was not in demand. It was not as if he set Southampton alight, especially with the players that they had.

Can't see him doing anything, but then he has nothing to lose so he may shock a few. Know I have calmed down, giving him grief is pointless as it is not his fault that CH went, and wouldn't we all take the job if it was offered. However, I think you are missing the point. The reason people were against Hughton was because of his lack of experience, while people are against Pardew because through his experience he has been proven to be a terrible manager.

The two scenerios are completely different and your suggestion of acceptance is in my opinion a completely senseless way to look at things. Surely you see that?

That is not saying anything about the circumstances of Pardew's appointment and the difficult situation he will be finding himself in which will be very much more difficult than CH ever faced having already been around the club and the players for awhile prior to taking the management position.

As for Pardew claiming he will be 'knocking the door down for funds' I actually laughed at that. Since we all know the reason he was appointed was because he will be exactly NOT doing any knocking on any doors. At least not until he visits the unemployment office in 6 months time.

not at all onthelevee. i didnt/dont want pardew. but some people are going way overboard on the negative, i mentionted hughton because we all went against him, too, and maybe some of us wish we hadnt. perhaps wish is a bit strong, but you know what i mean, yeah?

I'm of two minds about the booing and whatnot. I agree that it's counterproductive for supporters to do anything that undermines the players on the field. It's just as idiotic as it seems.

Then again, I know that AshleyCo works hard to insulate themselves from public sentiment. It's hard to see how reasonably discontented fans can express themselves to him otherwise.

If I were there, I wouldn't spend the entire game booing but I'd definitely take part in a well-timed anti-Ashley song.

FI'm of the opinion that at the end of the day the quality of the manager and players will show through, whatever supporters do. I never accepted JFK, thought he was a joke appointment and so did many others. That's not why he was an ineffective manager.

I think protesting, booing, all the negative songs have to happen and I fully agree with it. But it is how and when it is done. Before the match, half time and after the match with a sit down protest gets the message to him and the media.

During the game the fans need to get behind AP (which is a joke appointment) and the players, as you are right, the fans can make the difference, and the last thing you want to do is lose a point which can keep you up.

There is always the multi fuctional users who adapt after the wave of obscure mayhem! they are the same users who blew the roof off when Hughton was appointed full time Boss!

I would digg the comments up if I could be @rsed, but they know who they are!!! and when the dust settles, they will be the ones, greasing Alan Pardews ring!

Yes AP did a fantastic job, what a sub he made and I was calling out for Lovernkrands or Guthrie instead of Strolla. The result shocked me and he needs to take the credit. Yes Mighty Mag I was one that slagged off CH taking the job as a caretaker boss last year and I won't deny it.

I have said I am hoping I am wrong but if you think I am getting carried away and going kiss AP @rse after one game, and as said bloody great game you are wrong. every dog has it days, and I think the victory was more the players attitude that CH installed, and obviously the sub that AP made.

Do I think AP will do a good job this year, probably yes, he works under pressure quite well but do I think next season he will struggle then it will be a yes. I still think it is the wrong appointment, but then that is the great thing about football, the banter, the arguements, being proved right or wrong.

It pains me to say it, but the substitution were both excellent and timed to perfection.

Liverpool were starting to creep back into it and growing in confidence, all while Shola was doing nothing. Rangers injection of pace and sheer determination to run after everything sent them into meltdown.

Nolan isn't much use in the last 15 minutes when we are goals to the good, so bringing on Smith to do his headless chicken act was probably as good as we could have got from the bench.

That is the issue I have, I know we are not going to get a top manager, as who would come here, with little cash to spend and the circus that the toon run, so if we were not going to get a top manager why change, as would CH got us around the same position as AP would, was there going to be players p@ssed off with sacking CH, and if we were not going to totally change the direction of the club, by spending money and attracting bigger players to the club then what was the point.

To me Ashley wants us to go down the same road, having the same players, little cash to spend, buying unproven players and developing youth, so if that is the case why change a manager, who to me was doing a good job, especially when you take into account suspension and injuries. Fully understand if somebody had totally over achieved in every job he had done but AP hasn't.

Fully agree that this team is far better than the one that took us down, and players like that I never want to see at the club again, until CH got sacked I was happy with the way the club was going, not spending over the top, building a great spirit which hasn't been around for ages, and eventually building a team and we are for once having kids come through.

I will back AP, he is the manager and I hope I am totally wrong, but think it he will struggle especially next year when the pressure is off him

I don't like Pardew, for the simple fact that I DO NOT BELIEVE HIM when he says the first contact he had about the job was last Monday!

On other newcastle forums that I frequent, there were rumors that Hughton's departure was imminent and that Pardew was his replacement. THIS WAS A WHOLE 2 MONTHS AGO!

So I don't think Pardew's hands are clean in the disgusting treatment of Chris Hughton.

That said Pardew is what we are lumped with. We have a DISGRACEFUL FAT, BIG HEADED, POMPUS FCB in charge of NUFC who doesn't give a monkeys what the fans think, and like Keegan says 'DOESN'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT FOOTBALL'. Ashley lucked out with Hughton's appointment last season, as he truly is our best manager since Sir Bobby Robson by far, and saved NUFC when we could have easily gone the other way, and the way he had us playing this season was fantastic. And just when you think Ashley can't F!Ck it up anymore he does! FFS!

Pardew has 18 months to impress me, just like Hughton had. If he fails in that, I'm calling for him to be SACKED!!!! because it's absolute BullShish that he hasn't carried on behind Hughton's back for past couple months in my opinion! Some will say that is just football, nowadays, but that is absolutely DISGUSTING! And I could hardly see Sir Bobby doing that to another manager while they're still in a job.

i think there is some level of preparation for managerial change at all clubs though, andycole. its a murky business, but even at its best, plans will be in place for who a club may wish to take over shgould they find themselves without a amanger for any reason. there would be contact, probably indirect through agents for the club and the prospective new boss, well in advance of a position coming vacant.
think of man utd, i bet they have had several guys lined up over the last twenty years. not promised a job, but sounded out as possibilities. a manager could have health problems, be in an accident, accept a better job, or just retire, as well as being sacked, these are situations where a big business like a football club of that level should be prepared with at least a shortlist of interested parties.
i read the interview with pardew, you can see it on nufc.com, he suggested agents may have spoken, though he denied speaking directly to the club. not quite as cut and dried as 'no contact'

You're dancing around the point, lmk. I agree with a lot of what Andy Cole says. And this decision has gone long way to erase the measure of good will I had developed for Ashley as he was fulfilling the job for which I judge him: running NUFC efficiently. I now suspect that the period of calm at the club was an anomaly, as Ashley continued to implement his plan of turning NUFC's front office into his own personal social club. I find that to be an ominous sign for the club's future. I'm not going to overlook it because of one good result.

Related: I was irritated by AP's smugness over this. If he's looking to avoid getting tarred with the same brush as Ashley, he might avoid comments like "[the supporters] thought they had some stability [with Hughton]."
