England Manager Fabio Capello has confirmed Andy Carroll will face France in tomorrow evening's senior International game. Carroll who missed training yesterday through a groin injury and was expected to be ruled out of the sold out game at Wembley altogether, was instead deemed fit by England medics after an assessment earlier today.

Capello also said he didn't feel Carroll's high profile personal life would have a negative effect, he said;

"No. I think you have to help him because he made a mistake but he is really young.

I think everyone makes mistakes during their life and you have to help the young ones.

He's a good player and I think he will understand, to stay with the senior (squad) will be really important for him because all the people, the newspapers, journalists will be focused on his life. I think he will improve."

However, he did say that Carroll would have to shoulder more responsibility;

"Yes, I hope so. He needs to improve things in his private life now because it's really important.

I spoke with him about what you have to do on the pitch. This afternoon I will speak to him about his private life.

I didn't select him in the last game we played because the FA, myself and Stuart Pearce decided it was not okay to select him. I think this was really important for him and for us. Since then I think he learned something about this."

Carroll meanwhile, has praised his fellow Newcastle United team-mates;

"Without my team-mates, I wouldn't be scoring the goals and playing like I am playing. I've been through a lot, and Chris has stuck by me and helped me through a lot of things on and off the field, and so have the other lads as well.

They've all been great and stuck by me. That's what helps.

As you saw when we went down, the lads were together as a group, and it was the same when we bounced back up.

Now everyone on the pitch and in training, we're like best friends."

I didn't see the game. I know England lost and were apparently pretty dire for the most part.

How did Andy play? Did he play well enough to keep his spot?

He was one of the few bright spots from an England point of view. He had limited chances but still managed to impress in my opinion with intelligent flick on's and neat ball control. He got a decent ovation when he went off which also shows the England fans took to him. He'll definitely keep his place in the next squad if fit I feel. I think Fabio Capello confirmed as much when he said this after the match:


"I'm really happy for Carroll and his performance, he's a really good player for the future of England," added Capello. "We have found a good player and that's important."

one of the positive things to come out of the game was carrolls performance. played 70 mins or so. the occasion did nt frighten him. a thumbs up from me, and by mr capello in his comments after the game

I'd call him the only bright spot in that game not in a blue shirt. He's got a really promising future. He worked hard and that seems to win over people eventually.

Why the hell does Gareth Barry keep getting picked? He was atrocious. Guess Scott Parker isn't in the FA-approved clique...

I thought Carroll did well the other night when you take into account the lack of service he got. On the performance he did he should be picked again and reckon he would create a good partnership with Rooney.

Barry was awful and we need to get somebody who can play the holding role, and Parker deserves a call up as he can't do any worse

Parker or Carrick. Barry isn't a bad player, but he's been in horrible form for a while now. Can't reward that.

Barton will never be capped again. You can set it in stone. The FA will not let it happen.

You never know, if performances warrant it and he stays out of trouble, then maybe the media circus might get behind him. Football and the media can be a funny world

Only thing that could possible get Barton back into that team is a massive, massive injury crisis, coupled with Capello's antipathy for young players.

Still would lay a significant wager that it won't happen, ever.

Look at the way Barton has won back the support of the toon fans, I was one that said get rid of him. All it takes is him to bang in a few goals, some good performances, wind his neck in and it could be possible

How many times do people say that a footballer is finished, or leaves a club and that they will never take him back but go after him again. In a few games you can go from nothing to a hero, so imigane what he could by the end of the season.

I am not saying it is going to happen but in football anything can happen
