Newcastle Lift Championship Trophy Infront Of Record Crowd

Not even a 2-2 draw at St James' Park could dampen the spirits this afternoon as Newcastle United were awarded the Championship Trophy infront of 52,181 people, a record attendance in the division since it was renamed. Players, fans and staff alike started the celebrations on the pitch, which will no doubt carry on long into the night.

Asked after the match whether the hard work starts now, manager Chris Hughton said;

"Not tonight it doesn't, but we are back where this club wanted to be.

We know, of course, it will be a very tough season because we are in a very, very tough league.

You have to look forward to it. As a manager, as a group of players, as a club, it's where we want to be and we have worked very hard for it, so you have to look forward to it."

Go us. Still not happy that we had a year in the fizzy pop league, but this was about as a good reply as we could of managed.

Now hopefully West Brom fans will stop talking to me like they are my equal.

I am happy, imagine we stayed in the premiership, we would have been watching boring football and struggling week in week out, making the same mistakes that we always do.

Going down has been a wake up call and now we seem to have a plan regarding transfers, the team looks better than the one that took us down and we seem to have the fight back in us

Something tells me next season I'll see a lot less condescension from my rat-supporting friends. Though I have enjoyed their thinly-veiled desperation this season.

Everyone notice the two pictures with Steven Taylor and Andy Carroll so close together and both with huge grins. It would seem that they have patched up their differences. I know its a happy occasion but if there was still a lot of tension they wouldn't be that close to each other.
