Match Preview/Stats/Thread: Doncaster Rovers v Newcastle Utd

By Tyne-Talk
March 23 2010

Newcastle United travel to the Keepmoat Stadium where Doncaster Rovers host this evening’s match. Both clubs take to the game on the back of draws at the weekend; whilst Newcastle have won four and drawn two of their last six games and Doncaster have three wins and three draws from their last six.

Doncaster will be looking for points to improve their chances of a play off place, whilst Newcastle need three points to once again pull away from rivals West Bromwich Albion who are just two points behind the top spot.

Newcastle will welcome Joey Barton back into the squad after a lengthy absence due to injury, but Alan Smith (ankle), Shola Ameobi (hamstring) and Peter Lovenkrands (calf) are all unavailable.

Fitz Hall, picked up a hamstring injury against Bristol City at the weekend and is ruled out, whilst Mike Williamson could play with a protective cast on his broken hand if selected.

Steven Taylor was already ruled out through a knee injury, but is currently laid up in hospital with a suspected broken jaw after an alleged incident with team mate Andy Carroll.

This leads to the possibility that Carroll may be unavailable this evening, though the club have declined to comment on the matter.

Doncaster Rovers will have loan signing Billy Sharp available, having been ineligible against Sheffield United and Adam Lockwood is hoping to be selected for the starting eleven after recovering from a foot injury.

Fact: Doncaster Rovers have never beaten Newcastle United.

Fact: Newcastle are unbeaten in 8 games, the only team ahead of Doncaster in the stakes who are currently on an unbeaten run of 6 games

I just saw the goal. Great through ball from Routledge (the first one should have been a goal too, but good on the keeper to palm it away). Routledge's vision is ever impressive. He plays a neat little cutting ball.

It's nice to see Carroll get some goals with his feet the last few matches. He desperately needs to stop getting himself into trouble though.

Agreed waffles. He is risking his future if he carries on the same way.

Plus Rout has been class since he signed. I cant remember him having a bad game, has scored one or two and must have set up at least half a dozen. Said to the lads at the Scunny match that with his speed, final ball and his desire to prove himself he could be a real asset to us IF we get to the premier.

By the way Im not going to stop writing IF until its set in stone that we are promoted.
