With January fast approaching and a seven point gap at the top of the Championship table, many will be wondering how the club approaches the crucial January transfer window. For me there are basically three strategies Newcastle United could employ during the window for various reasons so it's interesting to analyze the consequences of each of them.
Firstly, Owner Mike Ashley, may be tempted with the club doing so well, to use the success of certain players such as Kevin Nolan and Fabricio Coloccini this season and accept any transfer bids which may come in for those players for example. It would be an ideal chance to lower the wage bill and perhaps to get money to spend on cheaper options such as may be a Matthew Kilgallon to replace Coloccini. That option may make the club more attractive to potential new owners, but would it guarantee promotion? The contribution of players such as Nolan and Coloccini shouldn't be underestimated but with Owner Mike Ashley you just don't know.
The second option would be to leave things as is, with just loan replacements for when the loans of Khizanishvili, Simpson and Harewood expire. That way the core of the squad remains intact while the push towards promotion may be maintained. The risk with this though is what happens if injuries start affecting the squad. The squad is not that big and injuries to key players may affect things. If it is not broke, don't fix it, so Ashley may think along these lines as he would then not have to spend too much in the transfer window.
The third option would be the most unlikely, but with the club in a good position, a few signings could be made to further strengthen the squad in a bid to get the club ready for when it hopefully gets back in the Premiership. There are some good young players out there, and pouncing now may make the summer transfer window less busy for the club which may help the squad stay settled as too much change might not be good for the club next summer.
It makes for an interesting debate, but ultimately Mike Ashley will decide what to do, lets just hope he makes the right decision come May when we look back on the season that has past.
As a Newcastle United supporter though, what strategy would you prefer?

Defense - We need back up.
1) Get Simpson in for the second half of the year, even if that requires giving Fergie money so we can sign him to a 3-year deal.
2) Bring in Killgalon or St. Ledger to provide cover at Center Back. Don't sell Colo until the summer, because he and Taylor have been solid together.
Midfield - We're strong here, but if people are available, we should take it.
2) If Crystal Palace is going under, Ambrose back. He fits in with Smudge, Nolan, and Guthrie - hard nosed, physical, works hard. I know he cried last time because of first team opportunities, but I still like him

Not sure if im being ridiculous here but a loan offer for Bentley maybe?
heard Arsenal are willing to let Wilshire go out on loan til the end of the season with burnley interested, but he has to play in most matches,
Theres an article saying we are also intersted in wilshire i read somewhere
Stoke are targeting Andy Carroll around 6,million
Not sure if that would be a good or bad move, If we go back up i dont think big andy would hack it, and offloading him would be of good value possibly? (would they offer James Beattie as bait?)
Cover for Enrique, a natural right winger, would be good!

Sure we will have nowt to spend,
I guess a few cheeky loan bids would be the best option,

Spurs are a good target for loans as their squad is bursting and theres some decent youths their,

We are most likely gonna aproach Killgallon, along with Blackburn and a host of Premiership dregs!
We could also move for Charltons Lloyd Sam, who we have had watched, he will go for nothing in the summer should they refuse a bid,
Personally i would like to keep what we have, if at all possible offload Gerami Butt & Barton to lighten the wages, cant see anyone even taking them on free transfers,
Cover for Enrique, a natural right winger, would be good!
