Calderwood Turns Down Tranmere In Favour Of Toon

Newcastle United assistant Colin Calderwood has rejected a position with Tranmere Rovers. Calderwood, who joined Newcastle in January and has supported Chris Hughton this season, was offered the managerial post at the club, but in a vote on confidence for Hughton has turned it down.

The pair have worked well together in their time on Tyneside and Hughton who has twice picked up the award for manager of the month in the Championship has been quick to praise 44 year old Calderwood for his involvement with the team.

It has been widely speculated that Colin will now be offered an 18month contract (until the end of the season with an option to extend it for a further year) with Newcastle, as it looks like Mike Ashley is set to stay for another season.

Maybe he is thinking that Tranmere is a sh@t job, where he can be at a big club, hopefully going back to the premiership. Maybe is he waiting for a better offer or he is really happy at the club

Yes, I know I'm cynical, but I'm also guessing he thinks that Hughton may not be up to the job, especially if we get back to the PL. He'd be the logical in-house replacement.

As long as Hughton gets us back to the premiership job done, as I doubt he will have the full say in signings and players leaving. Maybe Colin is thinking that but you would reckon it will only be on a caretakers post, as if we are back in the premiersip we could attract better
