West Ham's newly appointed manager Gianfranco Zola is set to give a warm welcome to former Chelsea team-mate Dennis Wise this afternoon as Wise takes to London with manager-less Newcastle United. Newcastle are yet to fill the void left by Kevin Keegan who he left citing board interference regarding transfers. Zola, who will make his English Premier League managerial debut today, replaces Alan Curbishley who also left West Ham citing board interference.

Zola is expecting Dennis Wise to be at today's match, despite him failing to show at last weekend's game against Hull City.

Zola said ahead of this afternoon:

"I'm looking forward to seeing him. It's a pity that we are playing a match like this where it is vital for us to get a good result and win. But it is always a pleasure. He was my skipper for many years and I always respected him.

He has had a tough time and it's a pity. He is a good man although some people don't like him. But when he was with us he was always positive and always willing to take part and be on your side all the time."

Zola repeated a question asked by many Newcastle United fans over the last few months, just why is Wise at St James' Park?

He said:

"I don't know what he is doing there. He is probably tackling someone on the board. I was quite surprised because I know he was enjoying management but that is something you have to ask him."

Ashley has said he has listened to supporters and is giving us what we want by selling the club. Obviously he missed the bit about wanting wise out.
Kin ell if BFM had asked wise to step down instead of boozing it up in the middle east there at least would have been a bit more positivity about the toon this week.
A director of football might work as long as it is someone the manager trusts and is someone they know and have possibly worked with. i.e. Director of football we defo need a left back, go find me a few potentials and we will discuss! Watch out for any marcelinos though they divnt like the cold weather!. If BFM wanted a cockney could have done no worse than someone like Rob Lee someone the manager would have trusted and could communicate with???
Well just my thoughts for what they are worth - not sure a knaa anymore...
