Newcastle Manager Kevin Keegan and Executive Director of Football Dennis Wise have made their first summer signing. Youngster, Aaron Spear has agreed to join the North East club from Plymouth Argyle after impressing in their youth side. The 15 year old has been watched by several Premiership clubs in the last few months, including Arsenal and Everton. Newcastle manager Kevin Keegan has made his first summer signing. Youngster, Aaron Spear has agreed to join the North East club from Plymouth Argyle after impressing in their youth side. The 15 year old has been watched by several Premiership clubs in the last few months, including Arsenal and Everton.

Spear's mother Caroline Spear spoke to Sky Sports.com on behalf of her son and confirmed the progress made.

She said:

"Aaron has agreed to join Newcastle and now we are waiting on the two clubs to agree a fee.

We spent a couple of days up in Newcastle and met with Dennis Wise and we were very impressed by what he had to offer.

A number of clubs had expressed an interest in Aaron, but he has decided he wants to go to Newcastle.

We are very proud of him and we are excited about his future at Newcastle."

Plymouth are believed to be entitled to a fee of approximately £150,000 up front, with further fees if and when certain milestones are reached.

Argyle manager Paul Sturrock, nicknamed ‘Luggy,' admitted in April of this year to having never seen Spear play, but said on the official Plymouth website:

"I have never seen him but he is supposed to be very exciting. If he is one of the jewels in the crown, I need to have a look at him and see what he needs to work on."

Despite not gaining the attention of the Plymouth manager, Spear who at the time of Sturrock's interview was too young for the reserve team which won at Forest Green the night before, has been scouted as "the next Wayne Rooney" and has obviously impressed far beyond his own camp.

Don't get me wrong-it's great that the academy is being stocked and a good sign that we can draw the interest of talented kids. But it's hard to get past the fact that our first preseason game is in five weeks and as it is we'd struggle to field a side. Tick tock, tick tock!!![:wor kid:]

Don't worry lads the flood-gates will open after the Euro final tomorrow and Newcastle will be linked with everyone under the sun. Then we'll be able to field two impressive teams instead of the average one we've got! (Well in our dreams anyway as reality will be harsh this year me thinks.)

Na mate, my poor attempt at sarcasm. I only want to hear about a player when they've signed their name on the dotted line. I'm hoping for a few of those but I'm not holding my breath, won't be much coming our way this season, especially in the "world-class" range.
