Blues fans are reminded to plan there journey carefully....

Everton fans are reminded to plan their journey to Goodison for the Sporting Lisbon game carefully.

The Blues face the Portuguese outfit on Tuesday 16 February and UEFA have stated the Europa League game must kick-off at 17:45.

Supporters are being warned to expect delays getting to the ground.

Andy Barr from the Traffic Management and Highway Management team for the area says there will be three issues causing congestion heading to Goodison Park.

“We will not only have pre-match traffic to deal with but also rush hour traffic and problems caused by the road works on the A59 Rice Lane by Queens Drive,” he explained.

“That means traffic will be heavy in the Walton Lane, Everton Valley and Kirkdale Road area.

“We are advising Everton fans to allow more time for their journey to the game and also consider using alternative travel if they can. Supporters should leave early to ensure they get to Goodison in time for kick off as traffic will be very slow moving in the area.”

Special messages reminding fans about the delays will be put up on road signs around the area ahead of the fixture.

For anyone who doesn't know, Everton must kick-off Tuesday's match at 5:45pm as both they and Liverpool have to play their respective Europa League 1st leg ties this week at home, expect that Everton cannot play on Thursday as Liverpool are at home that night, and under UEFA rules their tie cannot clash with the Champions League matches on Tuesday or Wednesday.

By rights, Tuesday's match should actually kick-off at 5pm, but Everton managed to negotiate a further 45 minutes.

I know, the whole thing is silly and I am sure a lot of football fans will agree with me.
