Airdrieonians 0-1 AS Airdrie

Gary Capaldi's first half header was enough to send AS Airdrie into the quarter finals of the league cup.

Rowan

Burton Cooper Stewart

N.Pardoe Smith K.Pardoe Clark R.Graham

Gray Capaldi

Another tight game between the sides although AS Airdrie had several good chances to put the game beyond the hosts but never took them which allowed airdrieonains to be within touching distance of pulling the game back level. Again AS Airdire's dogged defending held firm and Rowan with a superb stop 10 minutes from time ensuring the first half lead was kept.

The goal came from a long Ross Graham throw in which was missed by all and when the ball bounced Capaldi was first to react nodding the ball into the netform 4 yards out. Clark had a glorious chance to score a second when the ball broke for him 15 yards out the big man hammered the ball over the bar. Airdireonains had one decent effort on rowans goal when Gibb struck a shot past the right hand post from the edge of the box, very similar to his league goal agaist us, on the whole though Burton dealt well with the striker.

Second half AS airdrie could have increased there lead with several good chances Smith, Capaldi and K.Pardoe all had shots on target but easy saves in the end for the keeper. Thjis didnt come back to haunt AS though as the defence held firm and Rowan dealt with everything thrown in the air towards his goal. Gibb had one final chance when he got in behind the defence but Rowan superbly touched his effort over the bar.

The quarter final draw takes place this monday and will be a tough game regardless of who we play but we must be confident of reaching the semi's  and who knows from there.

Excellent perfomances yesterday with Clark winning everything in the air in the middle of the park, Smith's drive and energy and a good shift from Capaldi and Gray. The defence weren't under too much pressure and they handled the game well.
