Darren started his footballing career at West Ham but left Upton Park without making a single appearance for the Hammers first-team, He was loaned to Shrewsbury and Leyton Orient during the course of the 94/95 and the first half of the 95/96 season before he Shrewsbury in 1996, during his two years at Gay Meadow he scored 9 goals and made 51 appearances.
In 1998 he then moved to Plymouth argyle on a short deal that brought him up to the summer of 1998, after that deal he was released by Argyle and moved to Barnet on a free transfer, during his three years with the bees he scored 19 league goals in 127 games before moving to Wycombe in 2001 for £200,000 Currie played over 100 games and scored 18 goals before being let go in 2004 following Wycombe’s relegation to League Two, joined Brighton that summer on a year long contract before Town signed him in December 2004 for £250,000, he marked his debut for Town with two goals in the 4-2 win over QPR.
