Town’s latest signing Vemund Brekke-Skard says he is in shock after being offered a contract by Town that will run until the summer of 2007.

The 24-year-old Norwegian teacher is flying home today to sort out some personal issues before returning to England on Monday and he admits the chance to play professional football has come as a shock.

 

Skard: “I will be joining Ipswich. It's amazing what has happened to me. A dream come true.

 

“I did better than I thought I would in training during the week and hoped that I might be asked to come back for another week but when the manager told me he wanted me to join the Club I was just shocked.

 

“It took me totally by surprise and even now it is taking a while for me to believe what is happening to me.

 

“I have always had ambitions to play professional football. It was a dream for me but I stopped dreaming when I was 16 and realised it wasn't going to happen.

 

“I have been studying to be a teacher for four years now and have only one year to go but I will now have to put that on hold and start a new career here at Ipswich.

 

“The players have made me feel very welcome this week and the pitches and facilities here are so different to what I am used to back home. It's a great opportunity for me and one I'm looking forward to taking on.”
