Jim Wants More Technology

Ipswich Town midfielder Jim Magilton wants the introduction of more technology into the beautiful game to help referees.

Jim: “We had our own case with Sito seeing red against Norwich and the decision to send him off changed the game, the referee made an honest decision in that incident - or perhaps his assistant did from 40 yards away - but it proved to be the wrong one.

“He didn't mean to get it wrong, it was human error but with the game being so fast now, it's about time football helped the referees every way it can.

“It's a tough job, being a referee and with the technology age that we live in, it mystifies me why the game doesn't use it. The tools are there, the technology is there, what are we frightened of?

“There is so much at stake now in football that any steps that we can take as a game to help referees make the right decisions should be encouraged.

“We have seen technology used in cricket and rugby to great effect and it's about time football followed suit.”
