Town youngster Ed Upson has admitted he is in shock after scoring the winning goal in the FA Youth Cup Final last night.

Ed came on as a substitute in last nights 1-0 win over the Southampton Youth side and scored the only goal of the game enabling town to lift the youth cup for the first time in 30 years.

Ed: “It was a dream come true and I just can't believe it.

“I was told that I might be in the squad on the Thursday and then when Bryan Klug said I was on the bench, it was an amazing feeling.

“But to come on and get the winning goal was just unbelievable. I didn't know how to celebrate when the ball hit the net. I just put my arms up and everyone dived on top of me.

“It was the most fantastic feeling and certainly beats school!

“It was hard to sleep last night when I knew I might be involved in the game and hard to concentrate on my lessons as well and I probably won't sleep that great tonight either. It's just hard to take in.”

Town academy director Bryan Klug admitted he took a bit of a gamble putting Ed on the pitch, saying: “Yes, we took a chance on him but he's a level headed lad and we were quietly confident that he would handle the occasion, he's got a good strike on him and he proved that - and what a place to prove it.”
