Player Reaction: Plymouth
Reaction from Ipswich Town duo Ian Westlake and Darren Currie following today’s 2-1 win over Plymouth argyle at Home park.
Westlake feels he should have been awarded a penalty during the first half, saying: “The guy was all over me and pulled me down, he just wrestled me to the ground and it was a definite penalty. I couldn't believe the referee didn't give it.
“I asked him why he didn't book me for diving then but he just said he didn't see it and waved me away.
“I had no reason to go down because I was in on goal so there was no doubt in my mind that it should have been awarded.”
Later in the game Westlake picked up his 5th yellow card of the season meaning he misses either Towns FA cup game with Bolton or the league match with Coventry City on the 15th, Westy is hoping to miss the Bolton game, adding: “That takes me to five yellow cards for the season and that means a suspension which is obviously disappointing, I'm hoping I'll miss the Bolton Cup match rather than the League game against Coventry.”
Darren Currie who scored both of Town’s goals may of only scored one goal if either Darren Bent or Shefki Kuqi had decided to take to the spot kick, has said: “The three of us had a chat and the others were happy for me to take it so I did, I have taken penalties before. I felt confident about taking it and was obviously delighted to see it go in.”
Currie praised the unselfish Jim Magilton for his second goal adding: “It was a perfect ball from Jim. He put it on a plate for me really and all I had to do was slide it across the line.
“The most important thing is the result though and getting the three points because it was vital that we bounced back from the West Ham defeat.
“The back four were excellent and hardly gave them a chance in what was never going to be an easy game for us.”
