Ipswich Town’s reserve side lost their first game of the season, going down 2-1 against Crystal Palace at Portman road last night.
Dougie Freedman gave palace the lead after just 5 minutes, putting the ball past Shan Supple with a little help from the post.
Shefki Kuqi, Fabian Wilnis and Pablo Couñago all played last night but their experience wasn’t enough to help Ipswich on the night, although Kuqi did set up Scott Baron to bring Ipswich level after 9 minutes.
Fabian was playing at left back but looked to be fairly solid in a position he is unfamiliar with. Could Wilnis being trained as a left back pave the way for Matt Richards to play at left midfield a position where Joe Royle has said he would like to try the 19 year old.
Pablo Couñago was unable to find the net on the night, but did show some good footwork during the game.
Reserve team coach Steve McCall said after the game that: “I was very pleased
with the performance and we deserved to get something out of the game, Fabian
and Shefki did very well and I was I impressed with Shane in goal.
“Pablo
had a quieter match but showed some good touches and overall there was some
encouraging signs from many of the players.”.
