Derby 3-2 Town
Tommy Millers spot kick and Dean Bowditch’s goal were not enough to stop Derby running out 3-2 winners at Pride Park earlier today.
Derby started the game well with Ian Taylor and Tommy Smith both volleying off target in the early stages and a free kick from Inigo Idiakez was kept out by Kelvin Davis.
It was in the 36th minute when Derby scored the goal they had been threatening to do, Tommy Smith crossing the ball in to German Marco Reich who head the ball home.
The Derby had the lead for only 5 minutes before town levelled the score, Nathan Doyle bought down Ian Westlake when he seemed certain to score, the referee awarded a penalty which Tommy Miller converted into a goal.
Westlake almost got the goal the he was denied by Doyle after Tommy Miller’s pass found Westlake, who could only fire into the side netting.
Town did how ever find time for a goal before the end of the second half, Nathan Doyle’s back pass to Lee Camp was intercepted by Dean Bowditch who placed the ball into the back of the net after sending it between Camps legs to give town a 2-1 advantage at half time.
Less than a minute after the restart Darren Bent thought he had given Ipswich a 3-1 lead but the effort was ruled off side.
Inigo Idiakez levelled the scores in the 58th minute after Kevin Horlock fouled Tommy Smith just out side the area, Idiakez converting the resulting free kick.
Pablo Couñago and Fabian Wilnis were introduced on the hour by Joe Royle in place of Matt Richards and Dean Bowditch.
Four minutes after those two had came on Derby snatched the fifth and deciding goal of the after noon, Drissa Diallo dithering with ball allowing Marco Reich to sneak in and score to give Derby a 3-2 lead.
In an effort to get something out of the game Royle reverted to a 4-3-3 formation with Shefki Kuqi coming on in place of Tommy Miller in the 72nd minute, but Town failed to score another and lost 3-2 and with it lost there unbeaten record both this season and at pride park.
